Firearm off New Bedford streets, three arrested after disturbance

Detectives from the New Bedford Police Department gang unit took an illegal firearm off the street early Thursday and made three arrests following a disturbance on Pawnee Court.

Upon further investigation, police found a semi-automatic Glock 19 9mm firearm with a 15-round capacity feeding device, 35 grams of marijuana and more than $2,400.

Police arrested Dejon Depina, 19, of 69 Sycamore St., New Bedford, on charges of possession of a firearm and possession of marijuana with intent to distribute, and Jamareh Alphoso, 22, of 311 Coggeshall St. Apt. 1, on charges of possession of a firearm.

In the course of the investigation, another individual attempted to interfere. Manuel Reynerio Mejia, 23, of 929 County St., Apt. 3R, New Bedford, was charged with interfering with a police officer.

Allen has six open cases, including five for firearms-related offenses.

Mejia has prior convictions for dealing cocaine and is currently on probation.

The arrests were made at 2:40 a.m. Thursday, July 5.
