Family Dollar Store on Hathaway Road robbed by suspect with handgun

Police are investigating the robbery Wednesday of the Family Dollar Store at 139 Hathaway Road by a man armed with a handgun.

A witness told police that a man entered the store and went behind the counter near the clerk. He pointed what appeared to be a gun at her and ordered her to take the money from the register.

He took cash and fled in his vehicle out the west exit, turning left onto Shawmut Avenue.

The suspect was described as a white male, about 5’11’’ to 6’ tall, with brown eyes and a slim build, wearing a black coat and grey sweat pants.

Police are investigating whether this incident may be connected to other robberies in the area.

No one was injured in the incident, which was reported at noon.
