Fairhaven police seize 25 grams of heroin, $1,000 cash

christopherbessetteA Fairhaven man was arrested Monday morning for narcotics violations in the parking lot of the Citizens Bank located at the corner of Route 6 and Washington Street. Fairhaven Police Detectives, working with investigators from the Bristol County Sheriffs Office, detectives from the Mattapoisett and Dartmouth Police Departments and agents from the U.S. Drug Enforcement Administration arrested 51 year old Christopher Bessette and charged him with trafficking heroin.

Detectives secured a search warrant for a 163 Washington Street apartment, which is where Bessette had been living. A second search warrant was secured for a Mazda 6, which is the vehicle Bessette had been watched utilizing to complete his drug transactions.

During the searches, investigators seized over 25 grams of heroin, over $1,000 in cash, drug scales and packaging materials, drug paraphernalia, and hypodermic needles and syringes. Bessette will be arraigned in Third District Court Tuesday morning. The penalty for trafficking in heroin of this amount carries a minimum mandatory sentence of 5 years in state prison.
