Bristol County District Attorney Thomas M. Quinn III announced today that a 51-year-old Fairhaven man was convicted Thursday on a charge of possessing child pornography.

John Moura was convicted after a jury trial in New Bedford District Court last week. He was sentenced to serve two years in the house of corrections and will be required to register as a sex offender. The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney John Hendrie, the Supervisor of New Bedford District Court.

State Police assigned to the district attorney’s office began investigating the defendant after a cyber-tip from Microsoft was sent to this office. The company suspected that child pornography was being stored on a Skydrive account from an IP address in Fairhaven. After obtaining a search warrant, State Police detectives searched his relative’s Glenhaven Road home after it was learned he had previously been staying there.

At trial, ADA Hendrie proved that the defendant downloaded four images of child pornography onto the home computer and then uploaded those images to his Skydrive account. The images were first possessed by the defendant in the summer of 2011.

After the conviction, ADA Hendrie requested the maximum 2.5 year jail sentence.
