Sand Sculpture Festival at Horseneck Beach
August 13 @ 10:00 am - 3:00 pm
On Saturday, August 12th, Horseneck Beach State Reservation will once again be flooded with patrons and palaces of sand from 10am-3pm. Returning sculptors and children with pails alike will converge to create and compete for fun, glory and prizes. For the seventh year in a row, the Sand Sculpture Festival will showcase casual family fun at Horseneck Beach. There are four age categories applicable; Sand Fleas (ages 6-12), Sand Hoppers (ages 13-17), Sand Shapers (adults 18+), and Family (any ages). All children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Local community organizations and businesses have shown incredible support for this event by generously donating fantastic prizes.
The construction of the sand sculptures will start at 10:00am and finish at 2:00pm. However, all contestants should arrive to the beach as early as possible, since the parking lot can be filled to capacity by noon and only the first 100 contestants will be officially registered and eligible for judging. Judging will begin at 2:00pm and prizes will be given out to the winners once the judges have made their decisions. Pails, shovels, cups, or tools will not be provided so please bring your own. Horseneck beach can part with its saltwater and sand, so use as much as needed. Event participation is free, however there is a $13 parking fee for in-state (MA) vehicles and $20 for out-of-state vehicles. Pre-registration is recommended, but not required. Please call (508) 636-8816 to pre-register or for more information. The rain date is Sunday, August 13th @ 10am.
Horseneck Beach is located at the southern end of Route 88 in Westport. The address is 5 John Reed Road, Westport, MA. Directions and parking fees can be found on the MassGov website, under Horseneck Beach. Please note animals, with the exception of service animals, are not allowed on the state reservation (beach, parking lots, after-hours) until September 15th due to the nesting federally and state endangered birds.
