Erase the winter blues with 7 thrilling performances at the Zeiterion this February

The Zeiterion Performing Arts Center melts the winter chill this February with an electrifying line-up, beginning with iLuminate from America’s Got Talent on February 7. The slate of stars continues with two performances to celebrate Valentine’s Day: Darlene Love (“He’s a Rebel”) on February 9 and the national tour of Legally Blonde, The Musical on February 11. The month will also introduce an improv camp for kids during February school vacation week. iLuminate™ brings a story of adventure and romance conveyed by an array of dance styles expressed through a glowing visual design. Their patented technology has been featured in numerous performances by GRAMMY-winning superstars and on primetime TV, most notably as a third-place winner in America’s Got Talent. It’s a mash-up of dazzling wizardry, spectacular dance moves, high-tech effects and original music for a unique in-the-dark event!

Darlene Love

The Z is tickled pink to present the Broadway smash, Legally Blonde, The Musical! A fabulously fun, international award-winning musical based on the adored movie, it follows the transformation of Elle Woods as she tackles stereotypes, snobbery, and scandal in pursuit of her dreams. This feel-good musical features memorable songs, dynamic dances and the valuable message to be true to yourself. Equal parts hilarious and heart-warming, it’s so much fun it should be illegal!

New Bedford Symphony Orchestra’s Roses and Thorns

Swedish composer Andrea Tarrodi creates a unique world of sound that draws the listener in from the first note. Korean cellist Christine J. Lee will perform Tarrodi’s Cello Concerto, a piece that was inspired by the landscape of the Scottish Highlands. Also on the program are two warhorses: the dazzling suite from Strauss’s opera The Knight of the Rose and Tchaikovsky’s beloved Fifth Symphony.

Improv Camp

This February vacation mini-camp is a week-long introduction to the art of improvisation with instructor Jessica Wilson for ages 9 to 13. Course work includes games and exercises exploring awareness, relaxation, observation, the senses, voice, and physicality, and the week concludes in a Saturday showcase for families and friends. In collaboration with “Props-a-paloosa” at the New Bedford Art Museum.

Sofia Ribeiro Quartet at Stage Door Live

One of the greatest voices from Portugal, Sofia Ribeiro is a multi-awarded singer, known around the world for her strong, emotional, and uplifting performances. She arrives with her band to perform music from her new album “Lunga,” which blends elements of jazz, Brazilian and Portuguese music for a journey where emotions, images and poetry interact through Sofia’s splendid voice. This performance is part of The Z’s Stage Door Live series where The Z stage is transformed into an intimate concert club.

Dance Barre: Kicking and Screening

The Z’s free Dance Barre series continues with a choreographer showcase of short experimental dances created specifically for the camera. The films collected here represent a diversity of cultural backgrounds and artistic languages; and though all are concerned with the capture of the moving body within the moving frame, each does so in its own unique way – crafting worlds that range from the narrative and familiar, to the abstract and alien.
