Dog missing for 8 days near Brooklawn Park captured with net

On Thursday, July 25, at around 8pm, New Bedford Animal Control, with the overwhelming help from volunteer Debra Boyden of Missing Dogs Massachusetts and The Boston Animal Rescue League, located a dog that had been missing for eight days.

The missing dog, named “Cyrus” ran from a Princeton Street home during a thunderstorm on July 17. The storm may have scared the dog, who ran into the wooded area of Brooklawn Park and remained there for the following eight days. Buddy Andrade, who is fostering “Cyrus,” from another foster home in central Massachusetts tried for several days to locate “Cyrus.”

Mr. Andrade notified New Bedford Animal Control for help. Traps were set up by Animal Control Director Emanuel Maciel and Volunteers from Missing Dogs Massachusetts to no avail. Animal Control Director Maciel then reached out to the Boston Animal Rescue League to utilize their drop net to assist in catching “Cyrus.” Mike Brammer of Boston Animal Rescue League and their team came to help rescue “Cyrus,” using the drop net.

“Cyrus” was finally reunited with Mr. Andrade and his family. Buddy and his family were extremely grateful for the support he received from the organizations involved and his neighbors. Buddy said, “New Bedford Animal Control, Missing Dogs Massachusetts, The Boston Animal Rescue League, and The New Bedford Police are some of the best organizations going.”
