Detective Algarin-Mojica receives New Bedford Police Department’s highest honor

New Bedford Police Department Det. Algarin-Mojica recently received the department’s highest honor, the Chief’s Award, for leading the investigation in the largest seizure of Fentanyl ever recorded in the history of the city of New Bedford.

As a result of his investigation and subsequent search warrant execution, more than 7 kilos of Fentanyl were seized with a street value of more than $400,000 and the potential to kill countless masses of people.

“Det. Algarin-Mojica is an exemplary police officer whose dedication to the city must be recognized and commended,” said Chief Joseph Cordeiro. “The amount of lives saved as a result of Det. Algarin-Mojica’s investigation is unquantifiable.”

This seizure took place during a national opiate crisis when the scourge of opiate addiction holds a firm grip over the nation, bearing responsibility for hundreds of thousands of deaths across America.
