The New Bedford Board of Election Commissioners reminds New Bedford residents that Wednesday, February 10, 2016 is the deadline both to register to vote in the upcoming March 1st Presidential Primary Election as well as to notify the Board of Elections of any change in voter name or address.

In the Presidential Primary on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, registered voters may cast their votes for Presidential Preference, State Committee Man, State Committee Woman, and Ward Committees.

The voter registration deadline is also the deadline to change your party affiliation with the Board of Elections. If you wish to change your party enrollment, you may do so by filling out a new voter registration form. Members of political parties may vote only in their own party’s primary elections. Unenrolled voters (commonly referred to as “Independents”) and members of political designations or minor parties may vote in the party primary of their choice. Choosing to vote in a particular party’s primary does not enroll you as a member of that party.

The City of New Bedford Election Office, located in City Hall at 133 William Street, Room 114, will remain open on February 10, 2016 until 8:00 p.m. in order to allow the public more time to complete the voter registration process and make necessary updates to their name or address.

Any voter who is unable to get to the polls on Election Day may vote by absentee ballot during regular Election Office hours (Monday through Friday from 8:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.) or may request that an absentee ballot application be mailed to their home address.

In addition, to allow voters more time to cast an absentee ballot, the City of New Bedford Election Office will be remain open on Saturday, February 27 from 8:00 a.m. to 12 Noon. Absentee ballots may be cast up until 12 Noon the Day before the Primary (February 29, 2016).

Official specimen ballots will be posted on the City website, www.newbedford-ma.gov as soon as they become available.

Any New Bedford resident whose address has changed since the last election, would like to request an absentee ballot, or is uncertain about their voting status or designated polling location, should contact the New Bedford Board of Election Commissioners at (508) 979-1420.
