This month five Bishop Stang students were recognized with the Pope Saint Pius X Award. This special award was established by Cardinal Sean O’Malley and named after Pope St. Pius X, founder of the Fall River Diocese, who was devoted to the youth of the church. Pastors from local parishes nominate extraordinary teenagers who selflessly serve their peers, parish and youth programs with commitment and dedication.

The recipients from Bishop Stang this year are Bridget Clavell, a senior from St. Francis Xavier Parish in Acushnet, Emily Jones, a sophomore from St, Lawrence Martyr Parish in New Bedford, John Olivier, a junior from St. John the Baptist Parish in Westport, Molleigh O’Neill-O’Connell, a freshman from St. Joseph Parish in Fairhaven, and Sara Pereira, a senior from Our Lady of the Immaculate Conception Parish in New Bedford.

Mrs. Amanda Tarantelli, Bishop Stang’s Director of Campus Ministry, said of these students “The Pope Pius X award is a great honor for young people. We are so blessed at Stang to have these 5 students who devote their time and passion to serving their church and their God”.

The students were honored during a prayer service at St. Mary’s Cathedral in Fall River and presented with a cherished medal bearing the image of Pope St. Pius X along with his motto, “Restore all things in Christ”. The Diocese of Fall River will be highlighting each award recipient throughout the months of May and June on their website and social media.

Bishop Stang High School is humbled to be a part of the lives of these extraordinary young people and thanks them for their faith and service.
