Congratulations, Nancy!

Dartmouth resident and dedicated member of the Bishop Stang Guidance Department has been honored with this year’s Frederick Douglass Service Award from Nativity Preparatory School in New Bedford. Thank you for honoring and sharing with our community a quiet hero – Nancy Wood – that makes a difference for so many. – Janice Foley

The following is the announcement from Nativity Prep Director of Alumni Support, Suzanne L. Phillips.

“Dear Mrs. Wood,

Frederick Douglass once said, ‘It is easier to build strong children than to repair broken men.’ That is what Nativity is all about. Once our graduates leave our doors to embark on a new life adventure at various high schools, the Office of Alumni Support needs the help of a network of individuals, who share our mission, to insure that our alumni will continue on the road to success that began at Nativity. We have been very fortunate to have had many caring and concerned adults partner with us to reach that goal.

Last year, we instituted a new tradition as part of our annual Graduation Celebration for our alumni who are graduating from high school, the Frederick Douglass Service Award. This award is meant to honor those individuals who have given above and beyond to support the efforts of Nativity Prep in our mission to see our graduates move on to becoming outstanding, contributing leaders in society.

As the Nativity connection in the Bishop Stang Guidance Office, you have made the work of the Nativity Alumni Office so manageable regarding our alumni attending your school. Not only are you quick to respond to informational requests but you are always a cheery, kind voice on the end of the line. What you do may seem routine to you but it is very important to us. For that reason, we have chosen you to be one of the Frederick Douglass Award recipients for 2015.”
