From the Dartmouth Police Department:
“A tragedy was surely averted last night when a concerned daughter called us regarding a possible scam that her father had fallen victim to.
Upon responding to the call, Officer Justin Amaral discovered that the victim had been contacted by the “Attorney General of National Security” claiming that he owed $27,000 dollars that needed to be paid In the form of gift cards. In response to this, the victim went to Walmart and purchased 27 $1,000 Walmart gift cards and was preparing to send them.
Thankfully, Officer Amaral arrived on time and was able to prevent the victim from sending the cards to the scambags.
With the assistance of Officer Amaral, the victim was also able to get his money back.
PLEASE remember that if you do in fact owe money to the government, they will not be calling you on the telephone and requesting that you pay off your debt in the form of gift cards.
