Dartmouth Police Department arrests two New Bedford men in stolen vehicle

“On Sunday, August 14, 2022, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Officer Jared WHITE observed a Mercury Sable operating on Stackhouse Street without its headlights on.

In an effort to signal the operator of the Mercury to put their headlights on, Officer WHITE flashed his headlights at them. After the operator still failed to engage their headlights, Officer White attempted to negotiate a motor vehicle stop, at which time the Mercury fled down Rogers Street.

As Officer WHITE was aware that that portion of Rogers Street was a dead end, he requested that other officers start responding there. It was also at this time, that Officer WHITE, who had already called the registration plate in, was made aware that the vehicle was listed as stolen out of Raynham, Massachusetts.

Upon the Mercury reaching the dead end, both the operator and passenger exited the vehicle and fled into adjacent properties. In response, Officer WHITE and his K9 partner “Tyr,” as well as other officers now present, secured a perimeter, and initiated a search for the suspects.

As a result of the search, both suspects were eventually apprehended and identified as Calvin ROSA (Driver), 19, of Studley Street, New Bedford, and Malik CANNON (Passenger), 21, of Dartmouth Street, New Bedford.

ROSA was subsequently charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, failure to stop for police, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license, and a motor vehicle lights violation. In addition, ROSA also had six (6) outstanding warrants related to assault and battery, receiving stolen property, and drugs.

CANNON was charged with receiving a stolen motor vehicle, and also had an outstanding warrant for possession of a machine gun.” -Dartmouth Police Department.
