Dartmouth man arrested in New Bedford with stolen handgun

dartmouth-man-gun-arrest-newbedfordLast night at approximately 5:15pm members of the Gang Unit were working in the north end of the city and were investigating a male who was believed to be carrying a firearm and did not possess a license to carry.

Detectives spotted the Chevrolet Silverado truck and stopped it in the area of Deane St. and Acushnet Ave. As a result, a Smith and Wesson 9 millimeter handgun was found wrapped in a sweatshirt in a tool box. It was loaded with 15 rounds of ammunition.

The handgun was reported stolen in a housebreak in Dartmouth last month. Scheduled to be arraigned this morning in New Bedford District court: Luis Pereira age 48 of Luthan Kirby Way Dartmouth, MA.

He is facing firearms charges as well as receiving stolen property.
