Coastal Wine Trail’s Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Market Guide

Coastal Wine Trail wine chees chocolate westportFor the wine lover, there is simply no combination better than quality cheese or a mouth-watering piece of chocolate.  The Coastal Wine Trail recognizes this delicious trifecta by hosting an annual Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Market, which takes place at the Westport Fairgrounds.

It’s no big secret that the support local and eat local movements are gaining great momentum, and if you’re one of the millions of people in support of this, the Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Market is the place to be.  Not only does it feature tastings from 10 coastal wineries, it also features local food artisans who will share tastings of more than just cheese and chocolate.  If you think that this sounds like a good way to spend a warm Saturday in the Spring, read on!

1. Time, Location and Tickets

This year’s Wine, Cheese and Chocolate Market will take place on Saturday June 21st at the Westport Fairground, come rain or shine.  The tastings will take place indoors and under tents, but for those of you who have never been, there is ample space to roam the grounds if the weather is nice.

There are three sessions at this year’s Market, all of which last for two and half hours.  The first begins at 11 AM and ends at 1:30 PM.  The second session kicks off at 2:30 PM and ends at 5:00.  The third and final session gets started at 6:00 PM and ends at 8:30.

Tickets can be purchased in advance for $25 by going to http://www.coastalwinetrail.com/wine-cheese-chocolate-festival.  Tickets are $40 at the door.  On-site parking is included in the price of the ticket as are wine tastings and food sampling.

2.  The Wine

Obviously the greatest draw of this event is the chance to sample locally crafted wines from the region.  The 10 wineries that will be present are all a part of the Coastal Wine Trail, which begins in Connecticut and makes its way through Newport, the South Coast of Massachusetts, and all the way down to Truro.  Having so many top-notch local wineries is really a treasure for the region and if you haven’t gotten a chance to partake in all it has to offer, this is a good chance to sample some of the wares.

The wineries that will be present are; Coastal Vineyards, Greenvale Vineyards, Langworthy Farm, Newport Vineyards, Running Brook Vineyards, Carolyn’s Sakonnet Vineyard, Travessia Winery, Truro Vineyards, Westport Vineyards and Stonington Vineyards.

Wine lovers will be able to taste sample selections from each of the wineries and may purchase those wines that they most like (hence the making it a “Market”).

3. The Food

A good wine and food pairing can be like a match made in heaven.  Therefore, the Coastal Wine Trail has put together over 20 food local food vendors who will be on site serving samples of their varied goods.  As with the wine, certain food products can be purchased to later enjoy at home!

The food samples will range from mouthwatering sweets like Brigadeiro Barn Handmade Brazilian Truffles to savory items like artisan wood-fired pizzas from the Gilded Tomato Company.  There will also be many local farm items on hand, such as Aquidneck Honey and Sweet Berry Farm.
