Man injured, scooter destroyed in New Bedford hit-and-run

On Sunday, 10/16 at 8:15 pm police were dispatched to the area of Acushnet Avenue and Coffin Avenue, on a hit and run accident involving a scooter.

The operator of the scooter was traveling north on Acushnet Avenue when the vehicle in front of him stopped suddenly. This caused the operator of the scooter to swerve left and strike a vehicle traveling south on Acushnet Avenue head on. The vehicle it struck continued on south without stopping after the accident. That vehicle is described as either an Acura or Maxima color black.

The operator of the scooter is a 32-year old man from Brockton who sustained minor injuries but was taken to Rhode Island Hospital. Anyone with information is encouraged to contact the New Bedford police Department.
