“Whale’s Tail Clam Bar” to open in New Bedford in June

By the end of June, the New Bedford waterfront will see a new eatery open its doors, the “Whale’s Tail Clam Bar.”

The New Bedford Port Authority was accepting proposals for the Wharfinger Building and Waterfront Visitors Center and Stephen Silverstein, owner of The Black Whale and Cisco New Bedford was the sole bidder with an offer of $2,500 a month and a 5-year lease.

The seasonal clam shack will open in the Wharfinger building, offer takeout and outdoor seating in picnic tables and serve alcohol. As for the Wharfinger Building, Silverstein hopes to eventually utilize the site as a cafe offering breakfast and lunch with coffee, muffins, pastries, and a variety of sandwiches.

The cafe is not a certainty yet and is only in its planning stages. Perhaps, the success of the clam shack will play a role in whether the cafe happens or not.

Silverstein is also the founder of the “Not Your Average Joe’s” restaurant chain now with 20 restaurants in five states, and if his success there is any indication for the future of both sites, it will be a smashing success.

If you are cook, server, host or busser you can apply for a job at the coming “Whale’s Tail Clam Bar” here.

Dartmouth’s Mirasol’s Cafe to close for two weeks

From Mirasol’s Cafe’s IG:

Much love, please be safe everyone ♥️

New Bedford’s “Slainte Irish Pub” to change hands and re-open as an arcade and eatery

Did you grow up in the 1980s or 1990s and have fond memories of spending a day at places like “The Dream Machine” playing games like Dig-Dug, Robotron, Centipede, Pac-Man, and others? Well, you’ll soon be able to take a stroll down memory lane and bring out that little kid inside.

Fairhaven residents Lauren and Adam Katz will be taking over downtown New Bedford’s Slainte Irish Pub and re-open the location as a coin and token operated 80-90s arcade with a kitchen, bar, function rooms, sidewalk seating, as well as the rooftop seating the Irish Pub was known for.

The husband and wife duo will feature dozens of stand-up arcade machines, skeeball, a bar offering among other things dozens of craft beers on tap, as well as a yet to be determined menu. Have a birthday, anniversary, work party or other special events to celebrate? You can utilize one or both function rooms which seat up to 50 people.

While the idea of an arcade will, of course, attract a younger crowd, anyone 18 or under will have to be accompanied by a parent or guardian up to 8:00pm, at which time it’s “Sorry kids! Game over.”

The Katzes are gunning for a Memorial Day opening pending approval by the Alcoholic Beverages Control Commission and transfer of the liquor license.

New Bedford’s “People’s Pressed” juice bar to open second location in Padanaram Village

Fans of the downtown New Bedford juice bar, People’s Pressed, will be delighted to know that the popular destination will be expanding into a second location.

Unfamiliar with People’s Pressed? Dartmouth native Amanda Desrosiers opened her doors in March of 2018 based on the many juice bars she encountered while traveling to participate in one of her favorite hobbies, rock climbing – something that requires you to pay special attention to how you fuel your body for the physicality that characterizes the activity.

The New Bedford location at 141 Union Street offers fresh-pressed juice, as well as a variety of juice cleanses, energy potions, smoothies, wellness shots, teas, Kombucha, and coffee. If you have an appetite, you will find a number of fruit bowls and in the “Slices” section saliva-inducing treats like Avocado Bacon Coconut (gluten-free toast topped with creamy avocado, greens, bacon coconut, drizzled with cashew, tomato-vinaigrette, pink salt, and pepper), Avocado and Hemp Seed toast, Avocado, tomato, and balsamic toast, and Almond Butter, Banana, and Strawberry toast.

You can check out the on the menu here.

The new location will be at the former Village Harbor Sweets on Elm Street, next-door to the popular Sail Loft eatery. The new menu will be almost identical to the old one, with the possibility of a few new ideas. You’ll just have to check them out during their grand opening to find out!
