Preferred Residential Network – Adult Family Care provides a logical way for loved ones to get the care they need in the comfort of their own home

Problem #1 – Living home alone with the activity of daily living (ADL) needs such as bathing, ambulating, transfering, etc. is sometimes simply almost impossible.

Problem #2 – Taking care of a loved one with activity of daily living needs while working a full-time job is almost impossible.

Solution: Preferred Residential Network’s adult foster care offered by MassHealth will develop a plan, visit monthly, and pay the caregiver a tax-free financial stipend between $600-$1,500 per month.

If you or someone you know is in need of help with such things as eating, bathing, ambulating, etc. then Preferred Residential Network can help. Preferred Residential Network of Fall River is a premier adult foster care company with a reputation for offering superior service.

They also offer a unique program sponsored by the Commonwealth of Massachusetts to help with caregiver compensation: MassHealth will pay you from $600 to $1,500 per month to help these individuals. Preferred Residential Network is a family oriented agency that trains and compensates caregivers who are caring for friends or relatives whether they are 18 or 80 years of age.

No adult wants to have to rely on someone and it’s difficult enough to ask friends or family to help out – we know they have their own busy lives and commitments – so having them serve in a professional capacity makes things even harder. As anyone who has served as a caregiver or gone above and beyond to help a friend or family in need, they know there is much more to it than simply stopping by on occasion. There is a significant amount of time and availability that is required and there certainly is quite a bit of know-how involved – an expertise no one knows better than registered nurses

If you know someone taking care of a friend or loved one on Mass Health, Preferred Residential Network can help with caregiver training and oversight by their registered nurses and licensed social workers as well as a financial stipend.

A simple phone call could lead to a life changing improvement in the care someone you love needs. Instead of sending them off to live in an unfamiliar setting, give them the comfort of getting the care they need right in their own home. If you’re considering assistance to make life a little easier than Preferred Residential Network is the way to go. You’ll be pleasantly surprised with what PRN offers.

Their registered nurses and licensed social workers work as a team to develop customized care plans to help keep the members out of long-term care facilities. Call PRN today to find out if you qualify for a Mass health caregiver financial stipend between $600-$1500 per month.

Sault Fitness offers affordable, efficient, and effective ways to get you living a healthier lifestyle

We don’t need to have a New Year’s resolution set to begin to take our health and our corresponding fitness levels seriously. Many of us can stand to lose a few pounds, increase our heart health, lower our blood pressure, increase bone density or a host of other solid reasons to take up an exercise regimen.

But, man, oh man – how do you navigate the massive sea of options? What is best for you specifically? What is an efficient, result producing activity? How do I get myself motivated – often the most important factor. How do I stay consistent and dedicated? What role does nutrition play with an exercise program? Who can I trust as an authority so I am not injured or counter-productive?

Wouldn’t it be nice to be able to go to one place to get it all? To have every question you have answered by someone with experience and knowledge? To build that little spark into a massive fire? To help you stick to the plan and to customize your regimen and nutrition so as to maximize the benefits?

Does the thought of losing 3-5lbs in 7 days sound good? Dropping inches off your waistline or other problem area? Gaining lean muscle – which helps you burn more calories when resting or sitting? Being more energetic? Increasing your range of motion? Improving posture? How about just FEELING good about yourself?

Sault Fitness is consistently recognized as one of the leading personal training facilities in South Eastern, MA. When it comes to weight-loss, body transformation, sports specific training and overall wellness based training, Sault Fitness excels.

While there are a fair number of excellent facilities with fantastic staff, the testimonials, reviews, and word-of-mouth coming out about Sault Fitness is astounding. The who about Sault Fitness is one of the driving forces behind their rapid success. That who is owner, Exercise Physiologist Jared Fleurent, MS, CPT, RKC and his staff.

Jared has always been a three-sport athlete and loved coaching others – it’s in his nature and drove him to obtain his collegiate education – a Bachelors in Exercise Physiology and Masters Degree in Strength and Conditioning, both at Bridgewater State University – where he also served as a teaching assistant for “theories and practices for progressive resistance training.” This was a course that he helped develop and teach which covered all the different levels of progression with lifting weights for the students at university.

During this time the sheer results the students were having and the pleasure of having such a dramatic effect with your ideas and instruction cause him to fall in love with the coaching aspect of it all. During his undergraduate years he became nationally certified and his part-time job while attending school was as a personal trainer in Boston. As a top performing trainer he led over 14,000 one-on-one private training sessions helping clients lose thousands of pounds and live healthier lifestyles. This gave him a wealth of real-world experience about what would be a crock of…ahem, and what was actually effective.

Seeing client after client slough off the pounds – 10lb, 20lb, 30lbs or more, improve their mobility, flexibility, strength, overall health and quality of life, was evidence enough that he was on the right track. ” When you have a client lose 20lbs and no longer has to take blood pressure and cholesterol medication because of your help is just heart warming and it makes you want to continue to help people.”

Making sure to have plenty of personal experience of his own, Jared has competed in Collegiate Nationals for both Olympic Weightlifting and Diving.

In April of 2016, Jared dove headlong into a full-time business venture and opened his doors at 302 Elm Street, in Padanaram Village. So, what are all those acronyms that follow his name? Besides his degrees he is a Certified Personal Trainer (NSCA), Nutritional Specialist (AASDN), and a Certified Kettlebell Instructor (RKC). Think he might know a thing or two about exercise and nutrition?

Jared has placed these exacting standards on cherry picking his staff. With him he has two nationally certified personal trainers with years of experience. Together they work as a team to share their wealth of knowledge and experience to transform people physically, mentally and even spiritually in the sense of improving quality of life.

And that is the proverbial run for Jared’s inspiration and fuels his fire: “Knowing you are helping a young athlete make the varsity football team as a freshman, a senior D1 rower prepare for her senior year, a grandfather who just wants to play with his grandchildren and be able to get up and down off of the floor with them, a middle aged individual who is borderline Type 2 Diabetic that is no longer at risk because of working with me gets me up with a smile each day. I love doing this and can’t comprehend doing anything else.”

Sault Fitness is a place that will help you achieve your goals whatever the may be. The team has put all the factors in place and all you have to do? Show up.

With Sault Fitness you get customized 1 on 1 training. A world class personal trainer oversees every thing you do, insuring you get the best results and makes all the necessary adjustments to keep you on the path of constant improvement. An individualized 12 week nutritional plan and menu planning (does NOT mean starving!) set your metabolism in the right direction giving you more energy, speeding up the weight loss, and improving overall health.

Those customized workouts extend to workouts for you to do at home in between personal sessions. Each month you will get a progress report so you can see how far you’ve come, encouraging you, firing you up and motivating you to go even further. This and MORE, with “100% guaranteed results.”

If you are ready to live a healthier lifestyle, there’s no better time to start than today and there are fewer places more qualified to help you achieve those goals and in an efficient, expedient way than Sault Fitness!

Testimonials

I have struggled with weight my entire life. I have purchased gyms memberships, been on various “fad” diets, and have worked with several personal fitness trainers, but it always resulted in limited, short-term success.

Since joining Sault Fitness in August 2016 and working with Mike, I have finally achieved long term success. I have lost 33 pounds and 5 inches off of my waist and, as a result, I am no longer taking blood pressure and cholesterol medicine.

Mike is extremely knowledgeable, motivating, and stays focused on challenging me. Mike provides an intense workout which he modifies to keep up with my progress. For the first time in my adult life I look forward to working out and am seeing true results. Joining Sault Fitness and working with Mike were the best decision I have made for my health.
– Glenn Sherman

________________

Recently I was asked how I am and my response was I am better than I have been in 10 years! In fact, I am healthier, have more stamina, and more energy than I did in July. I attribute the difference to starting to work with Jared at Sault Fitness this past August. Jared met me where I was physically and mentally and helped me to find a way that has worked.

Over time, I have noticed changes. Simple things like being able to stand for a longer periods of time, not to mention always not being passed by the mall walkers. The suitcase easily goes in the overhead on the plane. My physician is pleased with dietary changes that have led to weight loss and decreased cholesterol numbers. I am down two dress sizes and that adds to looking and feeling better. I still have a ways to go but these milestones remind me of what has been accomplished. Jared has helped me find a way to achieve all of this. He starts you out with a strong plan. He continually encourages through the inevitable lapses that come with everyday life. He also adjusts for the periodic aches and pains of aging and gets me not to give in to it. The individual attention has made all of the difference and quite frankly has helped me be accountable and motivated.

If you are looking for more than a gym or tired of trying to do it yourself without results, I can highly recommend Jared. His balanced advice and counsel has made all the difference. You still have to do the work but Jared is a great partner to help you achieve YOUR goals.

– Nancy H.

Family owned and operated, Long Moving and Storage offers safe, friendly, and affordable services to the South Coast and beyond

Having injured my back permanently and utilizing a moving and storage service for my mom’s belongings when she passed away, I know through direct experience how much of a boon a moving company or storage space can be. Just imagining spending hours over the course of many days moving boxes, books, and furniture is giving me flashbacks. Never again.

Once I saw how convenient and useful a moving company was, I couldn’t picture doing it myself. While we here in New England are a hearty bunch and don’t mind a little Yankee elbow grease or helping out a pal with moving, it is worth every single penny spent to have it done for you. You don’t have to ask anyone for the favor. You don’t have to strain your back. You don’t have to take time off from work. You don’t have to get exhausted and earn some new bumps and bruises. And you certainly don’t need to be stressed out.

It really is worth every red cent…as long as it’s affordable and your belongings are safe, secure and treated like what they are: your precious belongings. Imagine a company that is experienced, affordable, knows the ins and outs of every aspect, trusted and efficient? You don’t have to imagine – family owned and operated, Long Moving and Storage LLC of Westport has been serving the area with quality service and has earned a reputation as the One Stop Shop for all of your moving and storage needs. Although the business itself is relatively new, Long Moving & Storage LLC has strong roots in the industry, offering a quality moving service to the region since the 1860s. Yes, the 1860s! Mention New Bedford Guide and receive a $50 discount off of your total invoice.

The sense of pride that goes into the family’s business goes back to a time, generations before, as does their solid reputation.

CEO Carmel Wills Long and Relocation Specialist Perry Long are leaders of a team of knowledgeable and experienced movers who are determined to provide you with a stress-free move. Carmel is proud to say that she has done it all over the years, e.g. local and long distance moves, for residential to corporate. Need something cleaned out? Check. Need packing items and materials? Check. Need it brought to storage? Check.

Want it done in a timely fashion, safely and at an affordable rate? That is something that the family has built their reputation on and continue to stake it on. These are not a bunch of lunkheads who muscle your furniture onto a truck. They are professional and friendly – that is customer service that is a tradition the family has successfully carried from generations before to today.

Perry, himself learned the industry working for a moving company in the Boston Area – where the pace, hardwork and frequency of jobs is difficult for most. You raise your game there or you get chewed up and spit out. Deliver people’s possession scratched and broken? Then, guess what, there are 50 other companies willing to take your place. Try to take advantage of people in a weak spot and overcharge them? Your reputation will spread and you’ll find yourself out of work.

Both Perry and Carmel felt something was missing though, or rather something could be added to enhance the customer experience “Although, it was thrilling to work in a more corporate America type role, with it’s hustle and bustle, we thought we could offer a tremendous service and a more customer service oriented experience.” said Perry. “It was a tremendous opportunity and I have a lot of respect for those who taught me the nuts and bolts of moving, but as our children got older, and I found myself missing out on sporting events, and school functions, we decided to take a chance, with our own company, and we could not be more happy that we did.”

“We hope that in addition to getting the word out about our business, this article is a venue to say ‘Thank you.’ to those customers who have chosen us as their moving company and the friends and family who have been so supportive since we opened.”

One of the aspects of the customer service their team provides is illustrated with their explanation: “From the moment we meet you, our Team of Professional Movers take the stress out of the move, working with our customers every step of the way.”

Together Perry and his wife Carmel saved up every penny they could and just over a year ago started Long Moving and Storage LLC with one truck and a few Customer Service Oriented Movers. From such humble beginnings and through hard work, and determination to provide each and every customer with honest, affordable and friendly service, the company now has a fleet of moving trucks and depending on the size of the move, up to 20+ movers. All this is combined into providing a superior moving experience. If you are moving and don’t know where to turn, look no more and call Long Moving and Storage.

Long Moving and Storage comes to every job with their Professional Team of Movers that understand customer service has been and is the key to their success. Fully Insured and Licensed in Massachusetts and Rhode Island, they do it all: Full Service Packing, Local, Interstate & Intrastate Moving, Office Moving, Emergency Moving, On-Site Storage Containers & Off-Site Climate Controlled Storage Facilities. Whether it’s an elderly couple that needs a sofa moved from the first floor to the second or an entire estate of expensive valuables from one multi-million dollar home to another, they take great pride in treating all their clients and customers with the utmost respect and ensuring customer satisfaction.

If you or someone you know is preparing for an upcoming move, make the right choice and call Long Moving & Storage LLC. You can receive a quote online, or give them a call to discuss your moving and storage needs. So skip the stress, sore back, calling in favors, and mashed knuckles and let Long Moving and Storage LLC and their Professional Team of Movers handle the rest. If you have any doubt, check them out on facebook or Instagram, and you will see why so many are choosing to #movewithlong

The Donut Factory dazzles with whimsical treats in the heart of New Bedford

By Chris Fernandes

“Invention, my dear friends, is 93% perspiration, 6% electricity, 4% evaporation, and 2% butterscotch ripple.”Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory (1971)

Invention, in the most literal sense, is at the heart of the delightfully creative desserts crafted at the aptly titled ‘Donut Factory’ at 102 Rockdale Ave in New Bedford. The Donut Factory opened in October of 2017 and is the brainchild of Jackie Pinheiro, who says the film ‘Willy Wonka & The Chocolate Factory’ was a childhood favorite and played a large role in the style and decorum of her charmingly unique coffee shop. The Donut Factory team is even crafting a “Golden Ticket Giveaway” inspired by the film’s plot. (More to come on that. Patience, Veruca.)

When prompted about what separates The Donut Factory from other coffee and donut shops, Pinheiro’s enthusiasm was evident. “Our atmosphere is pretty unique! The location is Steampunk-themed and we really try to craft an experience for customers entering our shop. We want them to sit and enjoy their time with us because customer service is such a huge part of the Donut Factory experience. You will always be greeted with a smile.”

Jackie runs the shop with a team of equally passionate employees led by restaurant manager Carla Duarte, whose ten years of experience in the industry and passion for customer engagement helps keep things running smoothly.

Said Pinheiro of her partner, “She is the mastermind behind the operation and comes up with some extraordinary recipes with our creative team.”

And creative they are. If you recall, Willy Wonka’s factory offered much, much more than chocolate (Snozzberries taste like Snozzberries!) Likewise, The Donut Factory serves so much more than their namesake. Beyond the numerous traditional and attention-grabbing donuts available (Strawberry Shortcake, Maple Bacon, Strawberry Kiwi Cheesecake, Smores, Snickers, M&M, Chicken and Waffles, Buffalo Chicken, etc.) the shop also offers an impressive array of sub, sandwich and bagel options.

“We offer specialty bagels paired with extreme flavored cream cheeses, including S’mores Bagels with marshmallow cream cheese, Fruity Pebbles Bagels with tutti frutti cream cheese, even a Baked Potato Bagel with bacon, cheddar and chive cream cheese!” The shop also serves breakfast and lunch sandwiches, and “Steampockets” that are filled with mouthwatering ingredients like linguica and cheese, buffalo chicken and Portuguese steak.

The Donut Factory doesn’t cut any corners when coffee and beverages are involved either. They feature an eight-keg nitro coffee system from Massachusetts roasters ‘Church Street Coffee’ which offers flavors like peppermint, mocha, pumpkin, chai tea, cinnamon and dark roast. They also offer their own customized iced coffee called “X Factor” which is designed to be energizing and tastes like everyone’s favorite nostalgia-inducing New England staple, coffee milk.

Though they’ve only been open since October, The Donut Factory is already finding ways to give back to the community they credit for keeping the cogs turning. As mentioned, the shop is currently organizing a Willy Wonka-style “Golden Ticket Giveaway” wherein 100 prize tickets will be hidden in the shop between December 26 and March 31. If you find one, you will win one of various prize offerings including tickets to Disney on Ice and other events, Donut Factory tours, free donuts or coffee, discounts and more. Your “Golden Ticket” can then be entered into their grand prize drawing on March 31, 2018 for a chance to win a prize that would leave little Charlie green with envy.. a free trip to Disney World! Full terms and conditions can be viewed on The Donut Factory’s website.

rom their creative and friendly employees to their awe-inspiring menu options, their nostalic tip of the hat to a much adored film.. to their sense of community and spirit of giving, it seems that all engines are running at full steam at The Donut Factory. As nice as it is to see a new, locally run business succeed, it’s even nicer to see them share their success with the folks who helped to get them there.

As Willy Wonka stated upon seeing Charlie selflessly surrender his prized gobstopper, “So shines a good deed in a weary world.”

Community Nurse Invites you to bring holiday cheer to hospice families

Hospice and advanced illness management is a team care approach. It offers support, comfort and care to the patient and their family. Our teams here at Community Nurse care deeply for their patients. These nurses, home health aides, social workers, volunteers, therapists and chaplains are welcomed into these homes during the most intimate of times.

And during the holidays what is a joyous time for many can be difficult for some.
We see it firsthand.

We see the big adjustment a husband faces when his wife is transferred to long term care around the holidays and how a very different holiday season lies ahead.
We sympathize with a retired healthcare professional who experiences a loss of independence when faced with their own care.

We help to comfort grandchildren who may not understand what is happening to their grandfather. Or small children who see the toll grief and caregiving is taking on their mother.

We reminisce with patients and families about fun filled times in their lives, holidays spent with loved ones, and their personal hobbies and missed activities: days filled with golfing, music, cooking, dining out, football games, reading, bingo, sailing, photography, arts & crafts, dancing, knitting, trips to the beach, movies, theater, concerts, travel or something as simple as being able to shop for loved ones at Christmas.

We mourn with caregivers when a patient passes just weeks before Christmas.

We offer emotional support and respite when normal day to day functions seem overwhelming.

We see family members take time off from work to be with their loved ones during the last days, even though it makes their finances tight.

We see caregivers who put themselves on hold to care for their loved one.

We see sacrifices being made during the holidays.

We see hospice families who could use a little cheer this holiday season.

And so we invite you to contribute an item – be it practical, celebratory, personal, indulgent or comforting – or a card to the personalized holiday cheer packages for some deserving hospice or patient coping with a serious illness families.

On behalf of our patients and their families, thank you in advance.
