Are you one to make New Year’s resolutions? Chances are that if so, there’s something on your list related to improving health, habits, and investing in your overall lifestyle. After the buzz of the holiday craze, it’s time to put the focus on you.

If this sounds like something you can relate to, or perhaps you just want to treat yourself to something special – there is a new place in town that specializes in the proverbial “royal” treatment: The Indigo Spa Company at 26 South Water Street, New Bedford.

The cozy spa, which has a very positive, comfortable vibe is owned and operated by Brianne Gracie and Kim Tapper, accommodates both men and women and an age range from tweens and up who are looking to relax, de-stress and rejuvenate themselves. “We understand that many spa treatments are considered a luxury, however, we truly believe that you can’t pour from an empty cup. Taking the time out of our busy lives to do something good for ourselves benefits not only us, but also those around us. Take a step back, take a breath, recharge, and replenish. We believe it’s not just a luxury, but a necessity and an important part of a balanced life and healthy habits” explained Brianne.

Both feel that they are fortunate to have found careers that they are passionate about. They genuinely enjoy having a positive impact on their clients’ well-being and say it’s wonderful to be able to offer services and a space that clients can look forward to visiting.

Brianne is a Licensed Massage Therapist with over six years of experience and is certified in pre-natal and oncology massage. She is also a Licensed Cosmetologist with over eight years of experience. Brianne offers therapeutic, Swedish, deep tissue, hot stone massage, body wraps, facials, lash extensions, and nail services.

Kim is a Licensed Esthetician with over twelve years of experience and offers specialized facials including extractions when necessary, skin consultations and analysis, customized home care recommendations, professional chemical peels, full body and facial waxing, brow shaping, make-up applications and lessons.

Their equally passionate team includes the talented Jill Carty, Olivia Major and Taylor Barboza. Olivia and Taylor are both Licensed Cosmetologists and offer specialized spa manicure and pedicure treatments. They also provide customer service at the reception desk.

The positive energy that this staff exudes is contagious and that creates a warm, welcoming environment. Kim explained that the color “Indigo” in their name represents service to humanity, integrity, and deep sincerity which ties seamlessly into their overall goal and philosophy as service providers. They clearly enjoy being there, doing what they do, and working with each other and that carries over to what clients feel and experience when they walk through the door.

They take the time to cater to each person and customize that day’s treatment accordingly. For example, you will receive a facial treatment tailored to what your skin needs that day: experiencing some sort of breakout? Dehydrated? They have you covered with a variety of treatments and skin care items. Maybe something as simple as switching products could solve your issues and having someone who is an expert on skincare can save you time and money.

Many people visit the spa to relieve stress, but if you’re experiencing discomfort or tension, a warm, healing session in the Infrared Sauna combined with a massage will leave you feeling relaxed and wondering why you don’t treat yourself more often. We each respond to stress in different ways, but spa treatments in general are designed to balance your mind and body both physically and mentally. The idea is to cater each treatment to suit your individual needs. This is what The Indigo Spa Company excels at.

The relaxation benefits are obvious, but every time I personally receive a treatment, I feel so relaxed it’s as if I’m floating. When I leave I actually FEEL re-energized, refreshed and motivated to incorporate spa visits into my lifestyle more regularly. Talk about rejuvenating! The health benefits alone are priceless. You know what they say: “If you don’t have your health, you have nothing.”

In addition to these services, The Indigo Spa Co. offers: Eminence Organic skincare, spa related products, special gift wrapping, gift cards, and monthly memberships. The spa can accommodate groups, spa days and bridal parties. They are passionate about remaining current in the industry and add new products and services accordingly.

Their Facebook page is definitely worth following as you can catch all of their updates, discounts and specials. They are currently offering 15% off Finn & Co. and Youngblood products.

You don’t need to wait any longer to start a resolution like this, you deserve to invest in your wellness all year long! “Take the time to listen to your body. It’s often sending you messages such as: Slow down! Breathe! Drink more water! Strive for a work/life balance! We’re here to be a part of that journey and do what we can to help you along the way.” More wisdom from the Indigo Spa Company!

Roam the history, art and culture of Cape Cod along the Museum Trail

By Glenn Ritt.

Cape Cod is living history, from the Pilgrim’s arrival and beyond to centuries of Native American culture. It is breathtaking nature on land and water. It is maritime tradition, from whaling and sea captains to pirate treasure and shipwrecks. It is art celebrating life from sunrise to sunset. It is science and technology’s past and present from Marconi’s discoveries to Woods Hole’s underwater explorations.

Now, you can discover all this along the Cape Cod Museum Trail, a world populated by nearly 60 museums from Falmouth to Provincetown. At www.capecodmuseumtrail.com, you will find hundreds of events, exhibits, activities and classes year round to plan your Cape Cod Experience, along with an interactive map and always interesting stories.

At the web site, you can sign up for the Cape Cod Museum Trail newsletter which highlights all the events and activities happening each month. In the busy summer, the newsletter is published weekly.

And you always can visit the Cape Cod Museum Trail on Facebook and Twitter to become part of its ever-expanding community. Every spring, the Museum Trail celebrates with its Festival of Museums.

“This is a one-stop location for anyone who loves history, art, culture and science,” says Peter Muise, CEO of First Citizens Federal Credit Union which sponsors the Museum Trail. “It connects museums, big and small, across all 15 towns of the Cape. When you actually see them all in one place, you are astounded by their scope and diversity.”

In a single afternoon, you can go back in time and roam the homes of Colonial settlers and Dennis’ first minister to the native Wampanoag, or climb the Pilgrim Monument and the Highland Light House, with each historic step leading to spectacular 360-degree vistas of the Cape.

“The Cape Cod Museum Trail is an invaluable resource to help visitors, fulltime residents and second homeowners in a fun and time-saving way,” Muise explained.

You can access it on your computer, phone or tablet at any time. Each museum has its own site along the trail for easy access – from contact information to hours of operation to photo galleries and directions.

Events, classes and exhibits can be searched by day, week and month. “That’s particularly valuable in the summer when there can be more than 400 listings at any one time,” noted Muise.

It may surprise many that museums on the Cape often host some of the most compelling entertainment events, from classic movies to chamber music to concerts ranging from country to rock. And many offer continuing education ranging from cooking and dance to pottery and foreign languages.

They also take you beyond traditional museum walls to walking trails and mudflats, from windmills to bird blinds.
“The Cape Cod Museum Trail is designed as an intimate experience because our mission is to connect each museum directly to their public,” said Muise. “We are much more than a digital world. We work with all the museums all the time, individually and together in a collaborative fashion. ”

As a result, the Cape Cod Museum Trail is evolving every day. Visitors are encouraged to communicate with their recommendations and experiences at the bottom of every story and at Facebook.

“The Cape itself is a giant, living museum. You see that so clearly when you visit the Museum Trail,” observes Muise. Enjoy hundreds of pieces of art from Provincetown to Dennis while watching Osprey feed their babies or a kingfisher dive for breakfast on a kettle pond. Now it’s all in one place.”

Plan to join us on May 6 for the Festival of Museums at the Hyannis Youth and Community Center from 10 am to 4 pm. It’s free for the entire family.

Brought to you by First Citizens’ Federal Credit Union who is proud to introduce the Cape Cod Museum Trail – built to connect museums all over the Cape.
