Taps during the New Bedford memorial Day ceremony

Mayor Mitchel and Colonel Waters laid the wreath today at the monument in Clasky Park and then taps was played for the crowd.

Col Waters was the 10th man of color to be commissioned in the U.S. Marine Corp and is a former principal of Carney Academy. He served in Korea in 1952. All of his five children served in the military.

Wareham police arrest 64-year old man for 4th OUI of drugs after car accident

On Friday at about 1:40 pm Wareham police officers were dispatched to the area of Main Street in the center area for a hit and run motor vehicle accident. It was reported that one car struck another and continued on toward Gibbs Avenue.

Moments later Sgt. Walter Correia found the suspect vehicle against the curb in the opposite lane near 532 Main Street. After investigation the operator, Douglas Alves, 64, of Onset, was transported to Tobey Hospital for evaluation, and is being summoned for operating under the influence of drugs, 4th offense, operating to endanger, and marked lanes violation.




Massachusetts State Police Investigate Fatal Motorcycle Crash in Rockland

This morning, at approximately 1:29 a.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Norwell responded to reports of a motorcycle crash on Route 3 Southbound, just after Exit 14 in Rockland, which resulted in the death of the motorcycle operator.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Mathew Holden indicates that a 2013 Ford F150 was traveling on Route 3 southbound in the right travel lane when it was struck from behind by a 2006 Suzuki GSXR600 which was also traveling on Route 3 southbound in the right travel lane.

The operator of the motorcycle, a 22-year-old man from Hanover, was determined to be deceased at the scene due to injuries sustained in the crash.. The operator of the ford, a 34-year-old man from Monument Beach, suffered no injury.

Route 3 southbound was shut down and traffic was diverted off onto exit 14. The roadway was closed for 2 hours and 45 minutes.

The cause of this crash remains under investigation.

Trooper Holden is being assisted in this investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section and Plymouth County DA’s Office. Also assisting on scene were members of Rockland Police, Fire and EMS and MA department of Transportation.

The identity of the victim is being withheld pending family notification.
