Empire Ford’s 3rd Annual Mustang & All-Ford Car Show Scheduled for Sep. 25th

Empire Ford of New Bedford invites you to attend their 3rd annual Mustang and All-Ford Car Show on Saturday, September 25th from 9am-3pm, along with co-sponsors Mustangs of Massachusetts and the Downshifter’s Car Club of New England.

This year’s show will be held at UMASS DARTMOUTH in Lot #15. Due to Empire Ford’s tremendous success, we’ve run out of room to host our car show at the dealership, so we are moving it to UMASS Dartmouth where there’s plenty of room! The first 100 entrants will receive free dash plaques. There will be free door prizes as well as entertainment by Johnny Angel. This event is a great place to take the whole family and see some classic cars and Ford favorites. From generations of Ford Mustang models that continue to capture our hearts to this day to other Ford models that became iconic over the years. If you enjoy cars and you want to see some of the best that the SouthCoast area has to offer, we invite you to join us from 9AM to 3PM for our Mustang and All-Ford Car Show!

For more information or to register for the show, go to EmpireFordofNewBedford.com. or email info@mustangsofmassachusetts.com. We hope to see you there!

St. Anne’s Credit Union Holds its 26th Annual Free Summer Concert

St. Anne’s Credit Union held its long-anticipated 26th Annual Free Summer Concert at Heritage State Park in Fall River on Saturday, August 7th. After the show was postponed in 2020 due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the local community flocked to see Living on a Bad Name, the only Bon Jovi tribute band ever chosen to fill in for the real Bon Jovi in concert.

St. Anne’s President and CEO Eileen Danahey and local radio station WSAR’s “Happy Hec” Gauthier introduced the band while the Credit Union’s employees gave out free blankets and beach balls to make the event even more enjoyable for concertgoers and their friends and families. “Proud of our reputation as an upstanding community partner, reinvestment in the areas we serve is one of our highest priorities,” said Ms. Danahey. “After 2020’s challenges, we were thrilled to bring back an event that has brought so much joy to the SouthCoast for decades.”

St. Anne’s hosted this free community event in cooperation with WSAR and the Massachusetts Department of Conservation and Recreation. To find out about more of St. Anne’s events, including free financial literacy seminars on home buying and improving credit, be sure to visit stannes.com/free-seminars or St. Anne’s Facebook page regularly for updates.

Games, rides, and concession stand food come to town with the Carnival at the Dartmouth Mall

After an awful 2020 courtesy of COVID-19, SouthCoast residents are itching to get out and have some fun. With more than a year of social restriction, we all want to spread our wings, exercise our gab muscles, and take the family or a special someone out somewhere that we can forget about the pandemic for a while. Get our minds off of things.

While the announcement that there will be no Portuguese Feast this year took the wind out of our sails, the Dartmouth Carnival will offer some solace. The annual carnival will bring with it our favorite games, carnival rides, and concession food via “food wagons” and will help soothe the pain of the loss of the “festa.”

If you live under a rock, and aren’t sure where the Dartmouth Carnival is, it is in the Dartmouth Mall’s parking lot – you can’t miss it as your drive by the mall on Route 6. Admission is $2 and the carnival takes place from Thursday, July 22 through Sunday, July 25. Operating hours are Thursday and Friday from 6:00pm-10:00pm, Saturday from 1:00pm-10:00pm, and Sunday from 1:00pm tp 9:00pm.

There are three pricing options for those who want to enjoy the rides:

E-Card: The electronic card is for individual rides and works just like your debit card. You simply pre-load the card with credits and pick and choose the rides you want and the specific number of credits are drawn from the card.

Wristband: Wristbands are for unlimited rides on specific days and times. Valid: Thursday, July 22 6pm-close. Valid: Sunday, July 25 1pm-5pm or 5pm-close. The wristbands are $30 each if bought online or $35 in person. They can be purchased here.

Megapass: The “Megapass” is for unlimited mechanical rides for the entire day of your choice. Online price $40. On-site price: $45. Good for one time use, with no advance reservation required. hey can be purchased here.

Rides returning for this year are the Expo Wheel, Flying Bobs, Mardi Gras, Seven Seas, Zero Gravity, Hyper Spin, Pharoah’s Fury, Viper, Carousel, Slide, Crazy Bus, Dragon Wagon, Dizzy Dragon, and Farm Tractors.

New Bedford High School Drama Club presents ‘The 2021 Film Project’

Student-produced films streaming on-demand, one weekend only, June 11-13.
By Jamie Roballo, Grade 12

In times of great change and uncertainty, people have turned to the movies seeking temporary escape from their fears and anxieties. During World War II, newsreels and films were popular pastimes, making Hollywood one of the most profitable industries of the time. Fast-forward to recent times – in the early stages of the pandemic, we binged hours upon hours of television and movies from streaming services and raised money for movie-industry workers put on unemployment. Something about movies, in the same way as live theatre, provides an escape for the audience.

In partnership with Bristol County Media LLC, the New Bedford High School Theatre Company is pleased to present a collection of short films, produced and performed by its members, which seek to create art and theatre in a time in which it would be otherwise inaccessible. This collection will showcase three short films, each using a script adapted from a play in the public domain into a working screenplay by the NBHS Drama Club’s directors. Filming ‘on location’ outdoors, with actors and crew masked and carefully distanced but brought together onscreen by movie magic, the Drama Club has managed to observe the utmost safety regarding the spread of COVID-19 while still creating a unique performance piece.

Tickets are $7 for The 2021 Film Project, which is available Friday, June 11, 7:00 p.m. through Sunday, June 13, 7:00 p.m. EDT. For tickets, go to: our.show/nbhsfilmproject.

Cast and crew members include: Jessica Brito, Maxine DeJesus, Lillie-Marie LeClair, Luke Duarte, Laura Conde, Kiva Bank, Nicols Gomes, Jalysa Noriega, Oliva Viera, Makenna Calvao, Kailey Sousa, Sydni Colson, Kathleen Sprissler, Victoria Oliveira, Isabel Morck, Shea Lowney, Yvonne Le, Elielis Fermino, and Timmothy Erikson.
