The Center achieved outstanding clinical outcomes for 12 consecutive months, including a patient satisfaction rate higher than 92 percent.

“The Southcoast Health Wound Care Center is a valuable service line that helps dramatically increase the quality of life for patients in our region,” said Jacqueline Somerville, Senior Vice president and Chief Nursing Officer for Southcoast Health. “I am so proud of everyone who has helped make this achievement possible and for the outstanding work our staff and providers do to continue bringing exceptional care to patients in our community.”

The Southcoast Health Wound Care Centers at St. Luke’s and at Charlton Memorial in Fall River offer highly specialized wound care to patients suffering from diabetic foot ulcers, pressure ulcers, infections and other chronic wounds which have not healed in a reasonable amount of time.

“We are always working with our patients and their care teams to develop a personalized approach to care for their chronic wounds,” said Mari Murphy, Wound Care Practice Manager at St. Luke’s Hospital. “In our program, we are proud to help improve patients’ quality of life and overall health by treating non-healing wounds with the goal of healing them.”

Advanced wound care modalities provided by wound care experts include negative pressure wound therapy, total contact casting, bio-engineered tissues, biosynthetic dressings, compression therapy, and hyperbaric oxygen treatments.

“Celebrating Wound Care Awareness Month this June, we want to remind patients how important it is to receive care for chronic wounds early,” said Cheryl Thompson, RN, Wound Care Program Director at Southcoast Health. “Early detection can help prevent complications such as infection, hospitalization and in severe cases amputation.”

Southcoast Health Urgent Care Recognized for High Standard of Excellence

Southcoast Health announced today its Urgent Care Center locations in
Dartmouth, Fairhaven, Fall River, Lakeville, Seekonk, Wareham and Middletown, Rhode Island have
been reaccredited by the Urgent Care Association and received the Accredited Urgent Care designation.
“This accomplishment represents Southcoast’s commitment to providing high-quality care to patients in
our community,” says Tonya Johnson, DNP RN NEA-BC, Senior Vice President and Chief Operations
Officer for Southcoast Hospitals Group. “Being recognized as an Accredited Urgent Care Center
demonstrates that our urgent care locations meet and exceed an exceptional standard of care. We are so
grateful for the amazing frontline staff who continuously put our community first.”

Accreditation is the highest level of distinction that can be earned from the Urgent Care Association. The
re-accreditation process is very thorough and must be completed every 36 months. It includes site visits,
patient visit observations and policy reviews.

“It was a true team effort to achieve this re-accreditation,” says Kelly Houde, Practice Administrator for
Urgent Care Centers at Southcoast Health. “Especially as our staff continues to step up in unbelievable
ways during these very difficult and trying times with COVID.”
Adding significance to this achievement, The Southcoast Health Urgent Care Centers continue to play an
instrumental role in Southcoast’s COVID response, providing essential support to hospitals and the
community. “From testing to treating patients that are experiencing COVID symptoms, the urgent care
team continuously steps up to care for patients who do not need to go to the emergency room,” says
Johnson.

Urgent Care Centers provide the community with immediate, non-emergency care, including treatment
for illnesses and minor injuries such as burns, fractures and sprains. These locations are open to all
patients in the community, including those who do not have a Southcoast Health primary care provider,
with walk-in availability close to home.

Further emphasizing the exceptional standard of care, Southcoast Health Urgent Care Centers are backed
by the specialty services and resources of Southcoast Health. Equipped with advanced diagnostic tools
and resources, all seven urgent care centers offer comprehensive care with the ability to refer patients to a
specialist if needed.

For added convenience, patients seeking services at Southcoast Health Urgent Care centers can wait in the
comfort of their own home until it’s their turn to be seen through the online check-in system. Visitors can
find the closest center, its current wait time and even save a spot in line before arriving.

So, You Think You Know The South Coast? Let’s Find Out!

Henry Quinlan, a man with a long history in book publishing while raising a family on the South Coast, has released this trivia book with his granddaughter, Caroline Murphy, who captained the soccer and track teams at Old Rochester, was the book’s photographer.

Quinlan packs this paperback with more than 150 pages of facts, folklore, trivia and treasures that the region has to offer, creating a mini travel guide of sorts to plenty of forgotten spots of historical importance.

With chapters dedicated to each city and town from Acushnet to Westport (or Fall River to Wareham if you prefer geographically over alphabetically) you’ll learn those hidden tidbits that contribute to the distinctness of each city or town and make for great dinner party fodder.

In his latest book on the South Coast, Quinlan’s trivia ranges from well-known facts to lesser-known insights. And of course, all the icons of the South Coast, past and present, make appearances. Murphy’s photographs will test your knowledge of buildings and objects, some of which you might notice regularly but have never learned the story behind.

The book features special sections on fishing, cranberries, notable women, folklore and concludes with Quinlan’s personal picks for the most amazing Treasures of the South Coast.

What are they? You’ll have to pick up a copy to find out. To purchase a copy visit Amazon or Omni-Pub.com where right now you can get two copies for just $15.
