On Saturday, March 23, at about 10:00 p.m. Wareham Police officers Blaise Lalli and Jennifer Braley responded to a residence on Highland Court for a break and entering in progress. The caller said that they had pulled in their driveway and observed a male walking down a set of stairs that led to an apartment above a detached garage. The male was also carrying a large shopping bag and ran back up the stairs when he saw the caller.

Upon arrival Officer Braley looked up the stairs and saw the suspect’s sneakers near the top of the steps. Officer Braley ordered the suspect to come down with his hands visible, instead, the suspect retreated into the apartment.

Sergeant Herb Noble and Officer Michael Phinney now arrived on scene to assist. Officers attempted to make entry to the apartment; however, the suspect had locked the door, barricading himself inside.

Sgt. Noble ordered the suspect to open the door and surrender, but he refused. As a result Sgt. Noble forced open the door and after a brief search located the suspect hiding under a pool table. After an investigation, it was determined the suspect had taken multiple items valued at over $1,000 and put them in the shopping bag before being apprehended.

Michael D. Alfonso, 26, of Middleboro, is charged with break and entering in the nighttime with intent to commit a felony and larceny from a building. He is being held on $5,000 cash bail and is expected at Wareham District Court on Monday morning.
