Bishop Stang one of four schools recognized nationally for National Honor Society Commended Chapter Award

Bishop Stang High School, a diocesan, co-educational, college preparatory school located on the Southcoast, has announced it has been recognized for the National Honor Society Commended Chapter Award which is one of only four National Honor Societies in the State to receive this honor. Bishop Stang Senior Owen Leary was also named as the Massachusetts National Honor Society High School Student of the Year.

“It is an amazing recognition for our school to receive commended chapter status and to have our President, Owen Leary, as the Student of the Year,” said Donna McDougal, Bishop Stang National Honor Society Faculty Advisor and History Teacher. “This places Bishop Stang in the highest class of National Honor Societies in the State due to our focused commitment to the pillars of scholarship, character, leadership and service.”

The awards were announced at the State leadership conference of the Massachusetts National Honor Societies.

“I am truly humbled to receive the award of the National Honor Society Student of the Year award,” said Owen Leary. “National Honor Society students, especially those in Massachusetts, are universally characterized by academic excellence and determination. It is an enormous honor to be recognized as a leader from within such a prestigious group.”

Owen Leary is a resident of Tiverton, Rhode Island. He has received multiple acceptances from colleges and universities, and is making his final decisions in the weeks to come.
