Bishop Stang High School Celebrates its 54th Commencement

Bishop Stang High School held its 54 th Commencement ceremony on June 5, 2016 in the John C. O’Brien Gymnasium. Most Reverend Edgar da Cunha, Bishop of Fall River, presided at the graduation of the 154 members of the Class of 2016. The keynote speaker was Dr. Christopher Fortier, Chief Pharmacy Officer at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Bishop Stang alumnus Class of 1996. Dr. Fortier counseled graduates to “Never say you are lucky, instead say you are blessed.” Jackson Markey of New Bedford, delivered the valedictory address, and Elaina Alzaibak of Tiverton, RI delivered the salutatory welcome. Jackson will attend Brown University, and Elaina will attend Colgate University.

The Class of 2016 earned over $20 million in grants and scholarships, while being accepted to some of the best universities and colleges in the world. Valedictorian, Jackson Markey, shared with the graduates, “This is likely the last time the Class of 2016 will be gathered together as one. Soon we will embark on a new climb, each of us up a different mountain. When we look back at this common pinnacle of our lives, high school graduation, may we remember all those who strengthened us to continue on our journeys.
