In addition, please refer to our previous Massachusetts General Law post explaining the legality of these modified exhaust systems. In particular, the following paragraph:

“No person shall operate a motor vehicle on any way which motor vehicle is equipped (1) with a muffler from which the baffle plates, screens or other original internal parts have been removed and not replaced; or (2) with an exhaust system which has been modified in a manner which will amplify or increase the noise emitted by the exhaust.”‘

Dartmouth Police “scambag” alert residents of Dartmouth Youth Soccer scam

“SCAMBAG ALERT — PLEASE SHARE

We recently had someone report that they received several text messages from a scambag posing as the President of Dartmouth Youth Soccer.

In the body of the messages, the scambag asks the recipient to purchase several gift cards from local stores, and then send him/her clear pictures of the cards. He/She goes on to say that the cards will be used as “incentive” for his/her hard-working staff members.

As Dartmouth Youth Soccer, as well as any other reputable organization, DOES NOT use this fundraising method, we strongly encourage anyone who receives a message like this to delete it and block the sender.

Wareham Man Pleads Guilty to Possession of Child Pornography

A Wareham man pleaded guilty in federal court in Boston Thursday to possessing child pornography.

David St. Jacques, 56, pleaded guilty to one count of possession of child pornography. U.S. District Court Judge Patti B. Saris scheduled sentencing for Sept. 24, 2021. St. Jacques was charged by criminal complaint and has been in custody since his arrest in September 2020. St. Jacques was subsequently indicted by a federal grand jury in November 2020.

A search of St. Jacques’s residence on Sept. 29, 2020 resulted in the seizure of a computer, three phones and one thumb drive. St Jacques destroyed at least two other drives and attempted to destroy one of his phones when agents arrived to execute the warrant. St. Jacques admitted to exchanging child pornography with other individuals on various chatting applications, and child pornography was discovered during the forensic review of devices that were still intact.

In March 2009, St. Jacques was convicted in Plymouth County Superior Court of several counts of dissemination and possession of child pornography.

Due to the prior felony conviction, St. Jacques faces a mandatory minimum sentence of 10 years and up to 20 years in prison, five years and up to life of supervised release and a fine of up to $250,000. Sentences are imposed by a federal district court judge based upon the U.S. Sentencing Guidelines and other statutory factors.

Acting United States Attorney Nathaniel R. Mendell and Joseph R. Bonavolonta, Special Agent in Charge of the Federal Bureau of Investigation, Boston Field Division made the announcement. Assistant U.S. Attorney Anne Paruti, Mendell’s Project Safe Childhood Coordinator and Deputy Chief of the Major Crimes Unit, is prosecuting the case.

The case is brought as part of Project Safe Childhood. In 2006, the Department of Justice created Project Safe Childhood, a nationwide initiative designed to protect children from exploitation and abuse. Led by the U.S. Attorneys’ Offices and the DOJ’s Child Exploitation and Obscenity Section, Project Safe Childhood marshals federal, state, and local resources to locate, apprehend, and prosecute individuals who exploit children, as well as identify and rescue victims. New Bedford Police Department responds to “Citizens for Juvenile Justice” report

“We have been asked about the Citizens for Juvenile Justice report regarding the New Bedford Police Department. The department takes seriously any allegation of disparate treatment by law enforcement, and our mission is to ensure community policing that keeps all residents and neighborhoods safe.

The methodology used by the organization is deeply concerning and displays a lack of familiarity with police recordkeeping and with New Bedford itself. The very foundation of the report, namely field incident reports, are misrepresented in number: the department provided 2,210 reports to the organization, which miscalculated and misreported the number as 4,997 – likely drawn from the number of individuals observed, many of whom were observed more than once, and do not represent unique individuals, which is also omitted in the report.
