The New Bedford Regional Airport is gearing up to track Santa Claus on Christmas Eve while he makes his yuletide journey. Beginning at approximately 6:00 a.m. on Christmas Eve, airport staff will monitor Santa’s globe-circling sleigh ride via the North American Aerospace Defense Command program that has tracked Santa’s annual trip since 1955.

The public can also monitor NORAD’s Santa Tracker at http://www.noradsanta.org/.

On Christmas Eve, NORAD staff will send Tweets reporting Santa’s location and will upload images gathered by webcams to its website to pinpoint the sleigh’s location.

“New Bedford Regional Airport staff is very excited as we await Santa’s 2014 journey! We have prepared here at the airport with carrots, cookies and milk in addition to our usual aviation fuels. If Santa needs to land and refuel between New Bedford neighborhoods we’ll be ready,” said Erick D’Leon, Airport Manager of the New Bedford Regional Airport.

New Bedford Residents may tune in to New Bedford Cable Access Channel 18 to catch a short informational video that describes how the New Bedford Airport prepares for Santa’s annual visit and tracks his progress throughout the day. The video may also be viewed on demand online through the Cable Access Program Schedule http://www.newbedford-ma.gov/CableAccess/Channel%2018/ProgramSchedule.html. Click on “Track Santa with NORAD” and then select “Watch Now”.
