50-year old man stabbed in the north end of New Bedford

An arrest has been made regarding yesterday’s stabbing in the area of Nauset and Mt. Pleasant Street yesterday. The victim, a 50 year old New Bedford man suffered stab wounds to the abdomen area and left forearm before stumbling into a nearby fast food restaurant. He was transported to Rhode Island Hospital where he underwent surgery yesterday afternoon and is listed in serious condition. It appears a dispute took place behind the plaza between the victim and another male that resulted in him getting stabbed.

This afternoon at approximately 3pm Detectives Macaila Saunders and William Westgate took the suspect into custody when he was found walking in the area of Shawmut Ave. and Hathaway Rd.

Video surveillance and witness statements placed the suspect at the scene and committing the stabbing that took place in the rear of the shopping plaza off of Nauset St. Both individuals are homeless and a motive has not been established at this time.

Arthur Ostiguy age 43 will be arraigned tomorrow morning in New Bedford district court and is facing charges of Assault with intent to Murder and Assault and Battery by means of a dangerous weapon-a knife.
