46-year old Brockton man killed in motorcycle crash on Route 24

Last evening at about 8:40 p.m., State Police from the Middleboro barracks responded to a report of a crash involving a motorcycle and a car on Route 24 southbound, south of Exit 16, in West Bridgewater, which resulted in the death of the motorcycle operator.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper Paul Martin indicates that a 2005 Chrysler 300 was traveling on Route 24 southbound when it was struck by a 2016 Harley Davidson Road Glide which was also traveling on Route 24 southbound.

The operator of the motorcycle, William Ponds, 46, of Brockton, was transported to Good Samaritan Hospital where he was pronounced dead. The passenger of the motorcycle, a 53-year-old-woman from Norton was transported by medflight to a Boston hospital with serious injuries. The operator of the Chrysler, was a 62-year-old man from New Bedford.

While the cause of this crash remains under investigation, speed is believed to be a factor.

Trooper Martin is being assisted in this investigation by the State Police Collision Analysis and Reconstruction Section, the State Police Crime Scene Services Section. Also assisting on scene were members of West Bridgewater Fire and EMS and Bridgewater EMS.
