4-Year Old Child Seriously Injured in Crash on Route 93 in Andover

Yesterday afternoon, at approximately 3:02 p.m., troopers from the State Police Barracks in Andover responded to reports of a crash, which resulted in serious injuries to a child, on route 93 Northbound in Andover.

Preliminary investigation by Trooper David Hanafin, indicates that a 2007 Chevrolet HHR, driven by a, 28-year-old woman from Nashua, NH, was broken down in the breakdown lane on Route 93 Northbound prior to exit 45.

A Ford Escape driven by a 22-year-old Bow, NH man came upon the disabled Chevrolet and struck it from behind.

The breakdown lane in that area is open to traffic at 3 p.m..

The operator and the juvenile passenger, a 4-year-old who was in a car seat in the rear seat, of the Chevrolet were transported to Lawrence General Hospital. The juvenile was then transported by Med-flight to Children’s Hospital in Boston with serious injuries.

The operator and passenger of the Ford were both transported to Lawrence General Hospital. The operator was then transported by ambulance to Beth Israel in Boston.

We do not release the names of persons involved in crashes.

The remaining facts and circumstances of the crash are currently under investigation by troopers from the Dartmouth Barracks. Troop A Headquarters, State Police Crime Scene Services Section (CSSS), State Police Collision Analysis Reconstruction Section (CARS), Andover Fire Department and Police Department, Methuen EMS and Police Department, Tewksbury EMS, and Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MADOT) all assisted on scene.
