3rd EyE will host its 6th Annual Art Auction on Dec. 2nd at the Hawthorne Country Club. The murals to be auctioned were painted at the 11th Annual 3rd EyE Open Festival in New Bedford this summer. The theme of the artwork, “Year of the Woman,” is strongly represented in the murals that will be available at Hawthorne Country Club. There will also be canvass paintings available for auction by more than ten local artists.
Among the murals to be auctioned are some great stories. Local painter Zachary Meunier painted a tribute to New Bedford’s only female fire fighter. A trio of female muralists who traveled to the 3rd EyE Open painted a twenty-four foot mural entitled “Rise Up Ladies.” They included Too Fly, a renowned artist from New York City, and Shiro from Shizuoka, Japan, a muralist specializing in community awareness who also works as a nurse in Japan.
The auction is benefitting 3rd EyE Youth Empowerment, Inc. which is a New Bedford based non- profit whose mission is to engage young leaders to positively transform their community through skills-based mentoring and music, art, and media. 3rd Eye’s programs include the 3rd Eye Open Festival, the NBHS A.R.T. after school program collaboration with North Star Learning Centers and New Bedford Public Schools, the “Capture the Moment” Video Micro-business, and the Youth Ambassador Program (YAP), a collaboration with the New Bedford Whaling National Historical Park.
This event is FREE to the general public and dress is business casual.
