On May 23, the Buzzards Bay Film Festival will launch its second annual “Shoot the Summer!” Contest for the best cell phone videos shot in, on, or around Buzzards Bay. The contest features a $1,000 Grand Prize, a weekly award of a $25 restaurant gift certificate, and a Fall screening of a compilation film of the winners. Winners will be chosen each week by popular vote on the Buzzards Bay Film Festival website and Facebook.
The Festival is sponsored by the Buzzards Bay Coalition, and its goal is to promote creativity and communication throughout the Bay watershed.
“There’s no better way of conveying the fun and beauty of summer than through a cell phone video,” said Festival Director Tom Gidwitz. “Last year we had dozens of entries, and this year’s contest should be even more exciting, thanks to popular voting and some new, great prizes.”
Winning filmmakers will receive a $25 gift certificate, valid at one of four of the Bay’s best restaurants: Quicks Hole in Woods Hole, Cork or Rose Alley Ale House in New Bedford; and South Dartmouth’s Sail Loft. They will also be considered for the contest’s $1,000 Grand Prize, awarded in the fall. Winning videos will be posted on the Film Festival’s website and Facebook page.
The videos can be in any style: documentary or narrative, serious or funny, or even a simple record of the Bay’s beauty. Each video must be shot on a cell phone on the Bay or in its watershed and be less than one minute in length.
Beginning on May 23 and every Thursday until mid-September, contestants can email their entries to the Festival or upload them on the Festival’s website and Facebook Page. The contest will close to new entries each Monday, when voting will begin. Each Thursday, the Festival will announce the winner and the start of a new contest.
Contestants must email their entries to summer@BuzzbayFF.com or upload them through the Festival’s website at http:/www.buzzzardsbayfilmfestival.org or the Festival’s Facebook page. Contestants must be at least 13 years old to enter.
