25-year old Taunton man survives being shot three times with shotgun

On Monday, October 09, 2017 at approximately 03:27 a.m. the Taunton Police Department was dispatched to a report of gunshots in the area of Fruit Street and Cedar Street in the downtown. They canvassed the area and were unable to locate any suspicious activity or witnesses.

At 03:37 a.m. a 911 call was received that a male party was lying in the roadway in the area of Weir Street and Taunton Green. The caller stated that the male party had now got up from the roadway and was hiding in the tree line beside the El Mariachi Restaurant.

Officers Cambra and Borges were in the area within minutes. As Officer Cambra turned onto Lincoln Street she heard a male party yell “HELP”. Officers Borges, Cambra and Westcoat located the victim and removed him from hiding under a bush. They rendered first aid until EMS arrived.

The victim identified as 25 year old Benjamin Morrison of Taunton appeared to have received multiple gunshot wounds.

Officer Borges reports Morrison was shot in the face with what appears to be a 410 shotgun. Additionally Morrison received a shot to his back and side.

Morrison was taken to Morton Hospital, stabilized and transported to a Boston Hospital.

His condition is reported as stable at this time.

No suspect has been identified.
