At a press conference in City Hall on Wednesday, November 21, at 3:00 p.m. Mayor Jon Mitchell will encourage community participation and will announce his own participation in the Child & Family Services’ Annual Holiday Hope Project by sponsoring a local family.

The Holiday Hope Project is a community-wide, volunteer effort that provides food, clothing and gifts for families and individuals receiving services at Child & Family who have fallen on tough times. Each year, the goal of the project is to find sponsors in the community to “adopt” an individual or family for the holiday season. Sponsors range from individuals, to families, school groups, businesses, office groups, churches, and clubs.

Child & Family Services is a private, nonprofit, human service agency that provides adoption services, mental health counseling, psychiatry and specialized support programs to people of all ages living in Greater New Bedford, Greater Fall River, Cape Cod, Lawrence, Florence, Plymouth, Worcester and Somerville. They have been helping families since 1843 and continue to fulfill their mission “…to heal and strengthen the lives of children and families.”
