At around 8:45 p.m. on Sunday a Massachusetts State Police trooper on patrol attempted to stop a 2011 Nissan Altima on Route 202 in Belchertown.
After activating his lights the driver quickly sped away through a red light at the intersection of Route 9. The driver then failed to negotiate a curve, hit a mulch bed, careened off the road, went airborne striking a rock wall, a large tree and a light post before crashing into a Jeep Wrangler parked in the driveway of a house at 79 North Main St.
“As a result of the impact, the Altima’s engine block was launched out of the engine compartment and became airborne. The engine block traveled through the brick exterior of a house at 73 North Main Street and finally came to rest on the second floor inside the house.” said Massachusetts State Police in an official statement.
The 19-year-old driver was ejected in the crash and pronounced dead at the scene.
