17 Massachusetts Legislators push to ban tackle football for children in Massachusetts

17 Massachusetts Legislators are hoping to ban organized tackle football in Massachusetts for kids in grades 7 or under. Locally, Representative Paul Paul A. Schmid III (Fall River/NewBedford/Westport/Freetown) presented the bill and Representatives Carole Fiola (Fall River/Freetown) and Alan Silvia (Fall River) co-sponsored it.

If passed, organizations could be fined up to $2,000 per initial infraction and then up to $5,000 for repeat offenders. If a child is seriously injured the fine can be as much as $10,000.
