“Snow Queen” at the “Z” (2:00pm & 8:00pm)
Still recovering from winter fatigue? New Bedford Ballet’s performance of The Snow Queen is guaranteed to melt any remaining memories of this year’s bitter winter, and warm your heart as you prepare to embrace the summer months. Inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s 19th century fairy tale, New Bedford Ballet’s 29th annual full length ballet features choreography by New Bedford Ballet’s artistic director Rebecca Waskiel-Marchesseault, and ballet instructors, James Brown and Lauren Knightly.

Audience members will experience the adventures of Gerda (Dartmouth High School senior, Amanda Peabody), as she perseveres to save her best friend, Kiah (Fairhaven High School senior, Lauren Pedersen), from the spell of the Highest of Imps (New Bedford High School, senior Emma York). While searching for Kiah, Gerda’s travels will take her to the Lady of Summer (Dartmouth High School senior, Brooke Spencer). The warmth and colors of the summer season will literally come to life, as flowers, depicted by New Bedford Ballet students ages five through eighteen, gracefully dance in celebration. Gerda continues her journey to the palace of the malevolent Snow Queen (Fairhaven High School senior, Morgan Pedersen), where Gerda’s fearless determination to break the spell is eventually met with success. The Snow Queen is a beautiful story demonstrating that friendship, hope, and determination can enable us to overcome seemingly insurmountable obstacles.
