Outside of a “mostly cloudy with rain” Sunday, we will have an absolutely stellar weekend. Very pleasant temperatures around 70 degrees with generally sunny days, are in store. Fall is coming and will arrive quicker than you think, so head out to the many “things to do” before the events slow down.

Friday, September 1st

Pirates & Privateers Presentation (Fairhaven) (10:00am)
Hear tales of pirates, Revolutionary War era privateers, and historical Fort Phoenix, presented by Greybeard, an 18th century gunner from the privateer sloop Broome, Abigail Black, a ship’s doctor who grows herbal remedies in her village garden when she’s not at sea, and Andrew the Powder Monkey, a boy who knows how to load and fire a cannon. Learn which things really just myths based on fiction, the difference between pirates and “legal” privateers, and why grog wasn’t all it’s cracked up to be.

Rebecca Correia – Pub Side (6:30pm-9:30pm)
The public is invited to a special night with music sensation, Rebecca Correia. Up-and-coming singer-songwriter, Rebecca Correia, who Vance Gilbert called a ‘broken-winged angel’ after their first shared performance, is a young veteran with already over 200 songs to her credit. Most recently, she co-wrote the song ‘So Long Goodbye’ with three-time Grammy-winner Keb’ Mo’. ‘So Long Goodbye’ can be found on Keb’s latest album Bluesamericana which was nominated for Best Americana Album @ the 2015 GRAMMY Awards. Head to Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuaryon Saturday to see the Annual Butterfuly Census!

Annual Butterfly Census (10:00am-12:00pm)
Savor the last remnants of summer, enjoy some time outdoors and learn about butterflies at the annual Allens Pond Butterfly Census! This free annual event welcomes butterfly watchers of all ages and skill levels to help census as many areas of Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary as possible. Members of the Massachusetts Butterfly Club will lead teams into different areas of the Sanctuary and provide expertise in identifying butterflies.

Meet at the Allens Pond Wildlife Sanctuary field station parking lot, located at 1280 Horseneck Rd., Westport, MA at 11am to divide into census teams. Participants should wear long pants, sunscreen and bring water and a snack or lunch. New Bedford Antiques Center at Wamsutta Place (11:00am-6:00pm)
Antiques, collectibles, and history all in one place! The Center is home to over 200 dealers and consigners featuring antiques and collectibles from early Americana to Mid-Century to today’s treasures. With specialty stores within the Center which include a flower shoppe boutique, an ephemera store, the cast-iron store and vintage clothing. The Center is also the largest antique consignment venues in the Southcoast Region. So if you have one piece or an estate full of treasures , the Center will preview your items and consign them. Feast of Our Lady of Angels (Fairhaven) (5:00pm-12:00pm)
A traditional, weekend-long Portuguese “festa” featuring live music, game booths, Portuguese and American foods, auctions, kids’ activities. On Monday at 1:00 p.m. a procession is held from St. Mary’s Church to Benoit Square and back, with marching bands, clergy, local officials and invited guests. The carved wooden statue of Our Lady of Angels is carried along the route on the shoulders of members of the club. Sponsored by Our Lady of Angels Catholic Association. For more info: 508-990-0502.

2nd Annual LIVE ART Throwdown (Fall River) (7:00pm-1:00am)
Calling all artists wanting the “title”, and all citizens interested in supporting a great cause.. Friendly competition between the areas best artists competing for our mission. Artists invite your friends they are the judges panel. $10/ticket for Entry into social awareness event in advance, entrance fee to Dunny’s Saloon will go directly to Gnome Surf’s Project Happy Camp. Happy Camp is a future compound for kids in need to vacation with their families. Winning artist will have their name placed on the trophy for eternity. Who’s taking the first annual “Street Battle”.
