Over 100 Massachusetts firefighters involved in large-scale forest fire drill at Myles Standish State Forest

“On Sunday, May 1st, two Wareham Fire Brush Breakers, along with Assistant Chief Haskell, participated in a large-scale forest fire drill at the Myles Standish State Forest.

Over 100 firefighters from multiple area departments were involved in the drill hosted by the Carver Fire Department. A/C Haskell served as the “right-flank” sector commander throughout the drill, assisting CFD chief officers. Everyone who attended learned a great deal from the complex operation. Thank you, Carver FD!

At about 11:49 a.m., during the height of the exercise at the state forest, the WFD duty crew and other call members responded to Charge Pond Road for a fast-moving fire involving a vehicle, shed, and approximately a 1/2 acre of brush.

Wareham Fire Engine 1 & Wareham Breaker 401 was assisted by Carver Fire Engine 1 and Carver C-3. all companies operated under the command of Captain Micky Bird to contain the fire. Onset firefighters stood-by at the Main Street station and handled a subsequent minor fire-related call.

The Wareham Fire Department appreciates the assistance provided by our mutual-aid partners on this busy day!” -Wareham Fire Department.
