Thoughts from Zac on specific paintings:
1. Alone on the Autumn Sea: A nod to the many sail boat paintings in New England. Gouache.
2. Big Snail: I thought, “imagine the torque and power a snail has on their scale….they are like little tanks…so here is a powerful snail crawling over an obstacle.”
3. Blue Weta: This is an image of a giant “weta” crawling across a hand. A weta is a common Australian grasshopper like insect about the size of your hand.
5. Chechen Rebels: This depicts a group of young Chechen rebels circa mid 1990′s.
6. Disco chick: This is a painting of a New Bedford free range hen by the name of “Sugaree” owned by my brother.
7. Lady Bug: Similar to the Snail, I’d image the world on their scale. for this one I’d imagine that the sound of the Ladybugs wings closing as it lands…the graphics in the painting show what the closing wings might sound/look like.
8. Lit Calalily: Part of the “My Palette” Series
9. Navajo: This piece was done in oils and is a Mono-print.
12. RUN Diptych: Run of the hip-hop group RUN DMC…1984 and 2004 respectively. In 20 years time, Run is still preaching positivity as a reverend. As a design project the elements on him haven’t changed, all he did was trade a gold chain for a Collar and an Adidas logo for a mic. Note paintings are sold as a pair.
14. Susumu Sugawara: The brave 64-year-old abalone fisherman Survived the Tsunami/ earth quake disaster and saved his livelihood by following that old tsunami adage its safer to head for deep water, he rode multiple 60ft Tsunamis only to return to a battered Island community. Susumu Lended his services as ambulance, delivery boat, taxi etc…..he is a hero……. the text means Tsunami. Check him out on Youtube.com: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BovnSJ_Labo
