Bristol County District Attorney Tom Quinn announced that a jury of his peers today convicted Richard Carreiro-Forbes of First Degree Murder, connected to the August 2010 slaying of his father-in-law, 59-year-old Douglas Carreiro in Taunton.

Mr. Carreiro Forbes, 33, of Taunton, was sentenced this afternoon by Fall River Superior Court Judge Rene Dupuis to serve a lifetime prison sentence with no possibility of parole. He was convicted of beating and shooting the victim to death inside the victim’s duplex on Second Avenue in Taunton.

The case was prosecuted by Assistant District Attorney Katie Rayburn, Deputy Chief of District Attorney units Homicide Unit and Co-First Assistant District Attorney Karen O’Sullivan. The trial at Fall River Superior Court lasted about eight days and the jury deliberated for about four hours before returning its verdict around 3:15 pm today. Around 20 witnesses were called to testify and more than 80 exhibits were entered into evidence during the course of the trial.

District Attorney Quinn issued the following statement after the jury reached its verdict today:

“This was a brutal murder that was painstakingly investigated and prosecuted by two extremely talented prosecutors. My state police unit led by Troopers Jeremiah Donovan and Chad Laliberte, working hand in hand with the Taunton Police Department led by Detective Peter Corr, was able to solve this senseless slaying,” District Attorney Quinn said. “Thanks to their efforts and the tremendous work at trial by Assistant District Attorneys Katie Rayburn and Karen O’Sullivan, those who loved Mr. Carreiro can feel that justice has been served and can obtain the closure they need.”
