From August 26 to 28, 2016, published authors, educators, and industry professionals from the creative community of New England will come together to write, inspired, educate, and network at the Second Annual Hollihock Writers Conference in downtown New Bedford. The event will take place at UMass Dartmouth’s College of Visual and Performing Arts Center, 715 Purchase Street, and tickets are available to all writers, from beginners intimidated by the blank page, to published professionals looking for a
network of fellow creative thinkers to share ideas.
Over this three day conference, participants will take part in discussions about the literary world of creative writing, poetry, nonfiction, and more. The conference will offer panels that provide tips on all aspects of writing from finding inspiration to finding an agent. Writers are invited to get their hands dirty in workshops and master classes and will have the opportunity to hear professional writers share their work.
The theme for this year’s event is “What Scares You,” and each keynote speaker will address this topic in their own unique way. Keynote speakers include: Jennifer De Leon, Boston Public Library’s Children’s Writer in Residence; Mary Johnson, author of An Unquenchable Thirst and Christopher Boucher, author of Golden Delicious.
Authors from around New England will also read from their published works and sign books throughout the weekend. These readings are free and open to the public and will feature newly published authors like Kristy Acevedo, Mia Siegert, Anna Noyes, and E.B. Moore. Other free readings will feature: Nancy Cote, Nichole Bernier, Steven Beeber, Kate Conway, Henriette Lazaridis, Steven Porter, Erin Dionne, Catherine
McLaughlin, and Jeff Simonds.
“We’re excited to be able to offer this great creative programming to the New Bedford community again,” says Hollihock director, Dominic Perri. “It was great to see over 75 writers in all phases of their writing journey inspiring each other last year, and we hope to bring that inspiration to even more writers in 2016!”
General Admission is $69/threeday pass, $39/student pass, and $29/oneday pass. For full details about specific readings, sessions, or to register for the conference, visit: www.hollihock.org.
