Sandwich man overdoses, drives truck into utility pole in New Bedford

Last night at approximately 6pm a 46 year old East Sandwich man overdosed while driving his Ford F250 and struck a utility pole on Logan St. severing it. This caused a chain reaction of damage to three other nearby utility poles.

Witnesses observed the truck driving east on Logan St. and stop at the stop sign at Acushnet Ave. It then accelerated rapidly and crossed over to the opposite side of the street before striking the pole. This caused several outages in the area.

Officer Jenna Touchette arrived to find the operator with severe facial injuries and showing signs of an overdose. Medics arrived, administered Narcan, and the male transported to St. Luke’s Hospital for treatment. He has been identified at Leo Curran Jr. age 46 of East Sandwich.

He will be summoned into court to face charges of operating under the influence of drugs and operating to endanger.
