Providence VA Rescheduling Non-Emergency Appointments Tuesday and Wednesday

The Providence VA Medical Center and Community-Based Outpatient Clinics in Middletown, R.I., and Hyannis and New Bedford, Mass., are rescheduling non-emergency appointments for Tuesday Jan. 27 and Wednesday Jan. 28 in response to a blizzard warning issued by the National Weather Service.

“We will still be open for emergency procedures and services, but we don’t want anyone getting stranded or hurt coming in for a routine appointment,” said Dr. Susan MacKenzie, director of the Providence VA Medical Center.

Veterans with primary care or non-emergency clinical appointments for Tuesday Jan. 27 and Wednesday Jan. 28 do not need contact their VA primary care or clinical physician’s office, the Providence VA Medical Center will contact them to reschedule their appointments.

Veterans are advised not to travel during severe winter weather unless absolutely necessary. Veterans are also advised to prepare for the storm, making sure to have sufficient food, water and fuel for the next few days. Veterans who must travel during the storm should ensure their vehicle has emergency supplies including a battery-powered radio, flashlight, extra batteries, blanket or sleeping bag, jumper cables, fire extinguisher, water, nonperishable high-energy foods (granola bars, etc.), a change of clothing, winter coat, gloves or mittens, warm hat, winter boots, fully-charged cell-phone with car charging adapter, shovel, sand or cat litter for traction, tow rope or chain, flares and/or reflectors, and a first-aid kit with essential medications and assorted bandages.
