At approximately 1:15 p.m. Braintree Police advised Massachusetts State Police of an armed bank robbery that had just occurred at the Bank of America on Tremont Street in Braintree. A male suspect had fled on foot after brandishing a handgun during the robbery.

The man subsequently fled in a black Toyota Camry operated by another man, which was last seen driving toward Route 3 in Braintree. Braintree Police advised that the vehicle was on Route 3 northbound heading toward the Braintree split. State Police cruisers began converging on the area.

At 1:19 p.m. a state trooper observed the Camry traveling on Route 93 southbound at Route 28 in Randolph. The trooper activated his emergency lights and siren and attempted to stop the vehicle, whose operator refused to stop and entered Route 24 southbound south of the split at a high rate of speed. Troop H Headquarters authorized a pursuit and assumed command and control.

Another trooper put down a tire deflation device on Route 24 southbound north of the Route 139 exit. The suspect vehicle made contact with the device but continued to travel south on Route 24 as additional State Police cruisers responded to the area to assist.

A short time later the suspect vehicle exited Route 24 at Exit 19 onto Central Street and continued into Stoughton. The Camry turned onto Turnpike Street at high rate of speed, at which point Troop H Headquarters terminated the pursuit due to the high speed and congestion of the surrounding neighborhood. Troopers terminated the pursuit and remained in the area.

Several minutes later the cruisers located the Camry driving at a slow speed and re-engaged in a slow-speed pursuit along Oak Street and Oak Ridge Drive in to Brockton. State Police Troop D now assumed command and control of the pursuit. Troop D MSP cruisers and Brockton Police cruisers responded to assist.

The suspect vehicle ultimately stopped in the area of 14 Cherry St. in Brockton. Both suspects exited the car and fled on foot. The fleeing driver was immediately taken into custody. The passenger was located a few minutes later hiding in a dumpster near West Ashland Street and taken into custody.

Massachusetts State Police and Braintree Police will be seeking charges on the suspects. Their names are not available at this time.
