Born and raised in New Bedford, most of the time I’m making seascape images taken in New England, but I won’t shy away from other types of photography like street and documentary work. I always aim to bring personality and life in a story with my images. You can see my work at joshsouzaphotos.com, facebook.com/joshsouzaphotography, and my future project Documenting South Coast at southcoastpics.com and facebook.com/southcoastpics Any inquiries can be made at info@joshsouzaphotos.com or by messaging my photo page on Facebook.

For as far back as I can remember I have always been creative and I always wanted a job where I could exploit that creativity.  When I was about seventeen I discovered photography as a creative outlet.  My father bought me a 1970’s style 35mm film camera (long before the days of my current digital camera) from a yard sale.  Over the course of a year I went through untold amounts of money in film, but with the stress of graduating high school and working two jobs, I had less and less time to take pictures and eventually lost interest.  Fast forward to four years ago, spending six to seven hours a night at my second job listening to my new passion, news and politics.  Soon after that I became very politically active, started photographing protests and even shot some film footage for a documentary.  That is when I realized I could marry my passion for the news with my passion for photography by becoming a photojournalist.  Through the lens of my camera I get to experience people, places and events I never would have otherwise.  I now work alongside my wife, who is also a photographer, at Miss Z Photography.

Husband/Father/Kid-at-heart” are the three things Josh often puts down to describe himself. Born in Harwich and living in Fairhaven with his wife and children, Josh has spent his 32 years of life in Southeastern Mass. He has always enjoyed taking photos and is currently working for a landscape design company and doing freelance photography any chance he gets.

He also helps run and writes for a few of the leading smartphone photography blogs and websites. Chances are you’’ve seen him stopped in the middle of a New Bedford sidewalk or at Fort Phoenix carefully aiming his cell phone to grab his next photo.

I’ve lived in New Bedford most of my life. I started photographing as a hobby in 2007 and it is now a large portion of my life. I’ve always been pretty creative and crafty with my mind and hands and photography is one tool to express this.

I started heavily photographing New Bedford Harbor vessels and the port at work in 2012. When time allows I try photographing every vessel that enters our port. The project is constantly growing. The goal is to have a image of vessels that people can look back on and say, “I remember that.”

My Landscape and New Bedford Harbor photos can be found on my website and Facebook page.
