The Ocean Explorium is open for February vacation!

The Ocean Explorium will open every day during February school vacation, with a variety of “Earth Power” themed programs and activities. Attendance records were set during last year’s February vacation, and the Ocean Explorium is preparing for another successful week.

Guests can create their own wind turbine, experimenting with different blade shapes to find those that generate the most wind energy. Using reusable and recyclable materials, guests can create trash-to-art mosaics, journals and eco-toys to demonstrate their commitment to a cleaner, healthier planet Earth.

The Ocean Explorium will present a brand-new Science on a Sphere® program on the history of the Olympics, just in time for the Winter Games. Other Sphere presentations scheduled are Climate Change, Tectonic Plates, Weather Tracking, and more. A complete list of daily activities, including fish feedings, coral farming, touch tanks and Sphere presentations, is posted under ‘Schedule’ on the website.

In addition, a certified SCUBA diver will make a special appearance from 1:00 – 2:00 PM on Tuesday, February 18, Saturday, February 22 and Sunday, February 23. Guests will be able to learn about SCUBA equipment and safety, as well as some of the interesting things one can discover while diving.

The Ocean Explorium will be open Thursday, February 13, through Sunday, February 23, from 10:00 AM until 4:00 PM.

The Ocean Explorium is located at 174 Union Street in downtown New Bedford and is handicap accessible via the rear entrance. Admission is $8.50 for adults, $7.00 for seniors and students with I.D., and $6.50 for children between 3 and 17 years of age. Children under 3 and members are Free!

Science on a Sphere® is provided and maintained by the University of Massachusetts Dartmouth. Visit the Ocean Explorium website, www.oceanexplorium.org, or call 508.994.5400 for program schedules, directions or other information.
