Man Arrested in New Bedford for Assaulting Man and Stealing His Sneakers

On Saturday afternoon at approximately 4:15pm Officers Edward Rene and Sasha Vicente were on patrol in the downtown area when they observed a male running in the area of the bus terminal carrying a pair of sneakers. A passerby yelled out that the male had just robbed someone.

The officers chased the suspect westerly on Elm St. and took him into custody as he tried to enter his home at 176 Elm St. In his possession was a folding pocketknife and he was still carrying the sneakers.

The officers were then able to locate the victim who is a 21 yr. old New Bedford man.

The victim stated that he had just gotten out of a cab at the bus terminal when he was approached by the suspect. The suspect immediately started punching him and knocked him to the ground. Once on the ground the suspect kicked him several times and pulled the sneakers off his feet.

The victim sustained minor injuries to his facial area but refused medical attention.

Scheduled to be arraigned this morning in New Bedford District Court;

Sean Everson age 29 of New Bedford.
