New Bedford Man Arrested for Heroin Trafficking

Yesterday at approximately 5:27 p.m., Trooper Andrew DaSilva of the Troop D Community Action Team was on patrol in the city of New Bedford when he observed a Grey Dodge Ram Pickup truck travelling on Purchase Street with a defective brake light. Trooper DaSilva stopped the vehicle on Hillman St. and subsequently determined that the operator, JOSE RODRIGUEZ, 33, of New Bedford was operating the vehicle with a revoked license.

Upon further investigation and with assistance from Trooper Gregory Furtado, 6 bags of a substance believed to be heroin totaling approximately 32 grams were located inside the vehicle. RODRIGUEZ was placed under arrest and charged with the following offenses:

1. Trafficking of Heroin
2. Possession to Distribute Class A, Subsequent Offense
3. Operating with a Revoked License
4. Failed Inspection Sticker
5. Defective Equipment

RODRIGUEZ was booked and held at the State Police barracks in Dartmouth pending a transport to the Bristol County House of Correction and arraignment in New Bedford District Court.
