Five New Bedford High School students were chosen to participate in the Massachusetts Music Educators Southeastern District Ensembles, selected through a rigorous audition process. That festival will take place on January 9 and 10 at East Bridgewater High School.

Those students were Emilio Casimiro (tuba)Leah Leahy and Olivia Marques (chorus); Keegan Marshall-House (pianist in the jazz band); and Emma Pacheco (trombone player in the NBHS band).

Leahy, Marques and Marshall-House were also recommended to audition for the All-State level festival. Emilio Casimiro, who plays tuba in the NBHS band, was chosen to participate in the MMEA Southeastern District’s Junior Festival on March 6 and 7 at Attleboro High School.

“This is the state’s gold standard for school musicians,” said Kerri Quinlan-Zhou, director of fine arts at New Bedford Public Schools. “It shows individual dedication and going above and beyond what students are doing in their schools.”
